Default Sako Grey wolf

I have a Sako 85 Grey wolf in 7MM Mag . It seem to have a lot of muzzle jump . I have owned it for several years , but would like to calm it down . What have you done to yours to control this ? Recoil pad...what make / model ? Muzzle brake ....which one . I only want suggestions which have proven to work and not adversely affected performance . Otherwise this is an awesome accurate rifle .

You only have 2 options. Reduced loads or a muzzle brake.

A recoil pad isn't going to help with muzzle jump. If you want to reduce felt recoil put a limbsaver pad on it.

Get a new stock with less drop to it.

I shoot a Brno 602 in 458 Win and the recoil isn't bad, kinda like a 12 gauge mag.

Its really not felt recoil . At least not straight back . Its more the case that the rifle will literally jump out of your grip and you loose the target in the scope . This is actually my biggest peeve with muzzle jump . I like to watch the bullet impact .

Yup 7MM . I have a .264 win mag as well which has higher pressures and has minimal jump....all straight back .

Stock design will control muzzle jump but it means replacing the stock. Installing a Mercury Suppressor in the forearm will also reduce muzzle jump and you can keep your current stock but the one draw back is it adds a bit of weight.

Outside of that, a properly configured brake or Magna Porting are your only options. To get it Magna Ported you would have to send it to the States, no one in Canada does it any more. I am sure you already know this but with a brake you must wear hearing protection, even one shot unprotected will damage your hearing.

I have used all of these on one gun or another. For muzzle jump the Magna Porting worked great on a very light 45-70 lever, where a Mercury suppressor couldn't be fitted to the forearm, running hot loads that had a ton of muzzle flip.

Rule number one: Never sell a rifle that is "awsome accurate". Rule number two: By the time your muzzle jumps 1/4", the bullet is at the target. Anything you do to the barrel will likely affect accuracy ... better or worse? It is a gamble. No magna porting to be found in Canada these days.
