Default Thanks!

Just completed my first ever hunting season. Spent 5 non-consecutive days in a 400 zone looking for whitetail. Every day out there I learned something new. Saw lots of other animals too. Moose, mule deer, ermine, a pileated woodpecker. Between trips I would scour AO for information about whitetails, and each time I went back out a little more prepared. On my 5th day out, last weekend, I set up looking into a forest edge where I’d seen rubs and a couple scrapes. I rattled a bit and used the grunt call, and at 8:10 a whitetail came walking through right where I was hoping he would. I shot him through the lungs and he dropped 20 feet past where I shot him. He was about 60 yards away. He wasn’t a monster, but I wasn’t about to be picky.

Thanks to everyone on here. I learned a lot from the forum about locating deer and about being patient. Just reading through the threads gave me tons of info I could use in my hunt.

Congrats on your first deer and a successful first hunting season, every day in the field you will learn something if you are watching and paying attention to the signs that animals leave us. Enjoy your venison

Great job. Been hunting for 55 years, I still learn new stuff every season. Hopefully you will too, it is a big part of the fun.

Unfortunately my face dates me far worse than my tongue does. Some stuff you just can't hide. Only thing worse than getting old, is not getting old. My mom is 96 this year, she says getting old isn't for sissys.

Thanks, guys. Been enjoying the meat so far too. Heart is surprisingly good. Just had to trim it up nice so it didn’t look so much like a heart!
