shot a cow elk day before yesterday. .270..140 gr nosler ballistic tip..400 yds lazered. i shot her a whisper back from where i was looking and was a complete pass thru with no expansion (or VERY) little. blew up her liver on the way through. man are they tough! she laid down twice in the next 500 yds, before i finished her off with one in the side of the head.
i have shot deer with this load with good expansion, and the last bull elk i shot with it, it also performed well. but this performance on the cow wasn't what i expected.
guess the secret is to shoot them exactly where you're looking, and the rest should look after itself.
