Default 2021 Bush Buck

After a frustrating week of steady hunting it finally all came together. The morning started out on the wrong foot, I drove 2 hours to my spot to realize I forgot to bring my insulated bibs, I sat down in my pop up blind anyway where I proceeded to freeze my balls off for 5 hours. The bucks in my area have been shy this year and I had not been successful at getting within range from grunting and rattling. Around noon i decided to head back to the truck and call it a day.
On my way I decided to check out one of my trail cam which is a short walk away from the main cut line into the bush. Saw a nice buck who was travelling during the night, as I was putting my card back in the cam I heard something. When I turned around that guy was staring at me at maybe 20yds, and the rest is history!

Awesome awesome and so exciting hey? Look behind you and there's a beauty looking at you. Surreal at first I bet. You're like, ' am I seeing things'?

Exactly, took me about 0.5 sec to realize what was happening, luckily I had put one in the chamber before entering the area (yes safety was on, yes i was alone and yes it was safe), it all happened so fast it was unreal.

Well that sure beats sitting and freezing on a cut line lol
Good on you for having your wits about and being prepared

Good reminder how quickly it can all turn around. Like others said, nice work being aware to take advantage.

In my experience bucks have their lunch break at the same time as the rest of us, so 12:00-1:00pm is an especially good hour of the day to spot them cruising. Definitely my most common time to catch them slipping.

Congrats

Our best hours for seeing deer this year was between 9:30-1:30 so a noon buck sounds about bag on

Congrats on a fine buck.

I’ve got a buddy who seems to see deer all the time but he says they take off as soon as they hear him rack a shell. I’ve told him there is something he could do to stop that from happening but he seems unwilling to change….

I shot mine today at 12:30, so it checks out!

In my area I have found them cruising from 1130-230

That's awesome. The amount of times I have checked a camera to find a deer has walked in while I am still there or just minutes after is just silly. I think sometimes they just get curious and walk in to check it out.

Great Buck! Congratulations! I had a few sneak up on me this season, they can be like ghosts!

I forgot to mention that he was bedded 30' from where i shot him, I must have peaked his curiosity walking in, I should also mention that I was grunting a little bit while I was walking into the bush. The right side of his face was covered with ice clumps so I am assuming that he has been laying down for a long time...what do you guys think?

We noticed that on one my friend shot last week. Brownish ice clumps on the cheeks. I just figured it was from when he walks with his nose to the trail, the light snow on the edges of the path catches on his cheek hair and partially melts from his testosterone-fueled body heat...
