Default New scope for 500yard+ shots?

Looking for a decent scope for those 500+ yard shots with a 6.5 Creedmoor.
You guys always have some interesting thoughts, unheard of brands and in the field usage.
Looking for best bang for buck/cheap as chips!
Need to save cash on glass to pay for gas! 😂
Lets go!

I can target shoot out to 500 with-either my 4.5-14 Leupold or my 3.5-10 Leupold. On game I can usually get closer and ensure a clean ethical shot and kill.

More magnification than this is in my experience not needed,it actually my be too much at times.

If its for target shooting only fill your boots and get a 25x Leupold. As for models,I think the less clutter on a scope the better.

As for cheap, you get what you pay for with scopes. You may find a good used one on this forum. Leupold has a lifetime warranty that's second to none, just make sure you check the serial number with then so you don't buy a knock off, also check the glass in not scratched up.

Stay away from Vortex. Once you start dialing turrets you will see that they are junk.

I agree with the caveat that if has a turret or a Multiple hash mark reticle
Finding a fixed 6 like that could pose an issue.

Budget options you could look at Riton, Athlon has some great scopes in all price ranges. But I think you’d be happiest with a Leupold CDS ZL model, maybe look at there new VX3 HD line up.

Used Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40. Can be had for between 4 and 5 hundred. Beautiful glass.

If you can afford the ammunition to become proficient past 500 yards, you can afford a decent scope.

Checkout Vector scopes. Swamp Donkey carries them. They have very good reviews a 3-18x50 with illuminated reticle plus rings $400

Take cats advice and pick up that sightron. They are some of the better bang for buck scopes and used makes it that much cheaper for a great optic.

I have used one out to 1K on tho different with great results.
The turrets are not as positive as some scopes but they are repeatable

I'd say burris eliminator IV. If your cartridge can shoot up to 1000 yrds of game. it can.

It gives you an instant hold over with a click of a button.

But you have to set it up right and having the actual FPS at muzzle point.

And a Grizzly Bear can be killed with a .22lr, neither are ideal or particularly well suited.

Sightron STAC is decent for the money, but covered/capped turrets.

Primary Arms PLx line is decent for the positive audible clicks and locking, zero stop turrets.

Like most glass tho, u gotta spend some to have decent lenses, and decent repeatable tracking. Spend less, and while it might be doable, the experience will always leave you wanting?

If it is a hunting scope scenario you are looking for, Spend as much as you can afford, then add a bit. Nothing worse than waiting all year to finally have a chance at an animal, and you can't legally tell what it is, Because of ****ty glass.
Last light, first light come to play as well.

Everyone suggests something else and one guy specifically says stay away from Vortex and you say you may pick up a Vortex and a Diamondback to boot, lol.

Look for used quality glass, not diamondback.

Default Shoot Straight!

I would think any 3-9X40mm would work good may it be a Bushnell ,nikon,Leupold,Sightron STAC,etc. yes even a vortex diamondback.
your choice your money good luck I am sure it will all work out.

Totally agree. Save up for something decent, especially if you plan on dialing the turrets a lot. I recommend a March. Good glass, turrets, and not overly heavy.

Vortex has a bad rap but in all seriousness I haven’t heard much anything bad about their razor line.

They are no different than bushnell. Tons of crap on the lower end and considering vortex has the biggest market share your going to hear more stories.

I would check out their 3-15 LHT.

Leupold fans have a mark3hd option or cds options in their hunting line.

Personally. Best value. Look for the used 3-12 lrhs bushnell hunting scope. It’s discontinued now but there are used ones around.

Could also try a swaro z3 with the brh reticle. A few 3-10s kicking around. I’ve seen.

Went to Cabela's over the weekend and checked out the Diamondbacks, price is right but that's about it I guess.

I'm going to take everyone's advice and just pump the breaks and get some extra cash saved up. I'm not in a rush and can use an old Bushnell 3x9 for now.

On a side note I think Jerry D is on to something, with vortex outselling the all other brands etc. Would be interesting to look at unit sales vs returns vs satisfaction.

I should also rephrase perhaps from "cheap" to affordable as everyone here reads the word cheap and thinks Christmas cracker quality.

Its also amazing to see the variety of responses!

Thanks for all the input!

I’m running a Vector Taurus 3-18x50 FFP. Ring the gong all day long at 500yds.

Default Vortex

Seems to be a lot of issues with vortex. I must be the small percentage who is happy with Vortex lol. I have a crossfire II on my Ruger M77 in .270 and a diamondback on my browning in 7mm. Now, I don’t shoot past 250 yards but I can hit 1 inch outside the bulls eye all day. My 270 puts 3 shots inside a group the size of a toonie at 200 yards. They are only a year old so maybe I didn’t have them long enough yet lol.
