Default Age of an Elk....

Any place I can send in the incisor from my elk to find out the age? I'm just curious to know...

Best way to check his age is 'How does he chew"

A friend of mine shot a six point back when you had to submit the incisor bar.It was only two years old,it was a small six with big potential. I know some areas in the six point zones with big five pointers, these elk will never be shot by licensed hunters,at least not legally they are always going to be five pointers, just as some whitetails never make five.

Post a pic of the Antlers,it may give some indication, especially by the amount of mass.

Very interesting article. I harvested 2 different 5x5 bulls in years past when the incisor bar was requested. One was a mountain bull and the other from the prairie. They both were not tiny, but also not very heavy. Results for both came back at 2 1/2 years of age. It brought reality to the fact that number of points are not a very good age indicator.

Mine was 11 years old. I believe his rack was going downward inches wise.
