Default Another case of senior execs ripping off investors and the public.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/air-...tawa-1.5450630

When you are failing as a company and struggling to stay afloat and begging for a public handout...and you do this?

The whole senior execs should be fired with cause and get zero executive compensation.

Enough already of giant failures making themselves rich for screwing up.

And Bombardier was no better, using government bailouts to pay themselves bonuses. But as long as it's a Quebec based company, Trudeau won't care that it is happening, and he won't do anything to stop it.

What is missing here is that the executives received the bonuses *because* they arranged the bailout. By getting the influx of cash, the company did not go under which is the objective of the board. So the executives accomplished exactly what they were paid to do, save the company.

It was revealed on Power Play yesterday that the bonuses were paid out just prior to the signing of the bailout. They knew how to sneak this in and obviously made sure they looked after themselves before anything else.

The CEO received 2020 compensation of 8.3 million dollars.

I'm not saying it is right or justified. The bailout terms should prevent bonuses to executives so that this does not happen. Even better is that the executives should be fired if they put the company in this position of needing the bailout. In the case of Air Canada, the executives were not the reason the company was about to go under.

Both Air Canada and the government handing out our money are incompetent. Let them both sink and disappear.

Haven't you guys learned anything from this govt!?

Any business in Quebec, no matter how incompetent (Air Canada), unprofitable (Bombardier), unethical (SNC Lavelin) will ALWAYS be bailed out with tax payers dollars, and **** everybody else (especially Alberta).

No different than the 3 big telecoms, Rogers, Bell, and Telus, who collected $240 million between them with the wage subsidy program while raising shareholder payouts. Considering the majority of the population was stuck at home watching tv, using the internet and cellular during the lockdowns, I highly doubt they were losing money due to the lockdowns. I don't know how they or the government justified them being qualified to receive COVID aid. Meanwhile, my little family-run cafe qualified for zippo because they were new owners and couldn't provide a drop-in revenue due to the lockdowns.

X2+ to all of the above and not long till Westjet etc does the same now that it is no longer public..that said...the politicians are worse with their golden parachutes and pensions...they always vote themselves a pay and benefits raise and then afterwards grab the low hanging fruit of employee freeze on yearly pay.. often they go 0-0-1 but now they want rollbacks or concessionary bargaining...sorry to rant and hijack...we can start by eating the rich...

That is exactly the situation with this government.
