Huge lines at our polling station.
Here's hoping for some changes.

Hearing that Druh might finally get the boot. I'd prefer that over whomever wins the mayors seat!

Same with GCC and Evan Woolley.
Hopefully Farkas can win Ward 11.

I hope the same for Wooley, that's my ward. It's just that I've hated Druh for far longer.

Druh and Pinhead were terrible. Glad Pinhead isn’t running anymore.

So far in the wards that count in who gets replaced, no good decisions have been made. Wooley in a strong lead in ward 8 and Druh in a bit of a lead yet. Its a shame what vote-splitting can do when the incumbent usually gets a strong following........ As far as the wards where the incumbents opted not to run there's at least some hope of change, but the thing is the new councillors will still have their learning curves.

Meanwhile -
In the Mayor's contest, Mr. Naheed Kurban Nenshi is building a winning lead. And at the other end, Stan the Man Waciak and Jason GoGo Achtymichuk are fighting it out for last place - http://election.calgary.ca/
We can check the final results at morning coffee

That GoGo character was creepy 20-ish years ago when he was stalking a waitress that a buddy of mine worked with. Looks like he's still weird, last place suits him.....

I am incredibly disappointed in my fellow Calgarians this morning. I think there's some severe cases of stockholm syndrome in this city...

Some people are simply more afraid of change than they are of continuing to endure the wrongs presently committed to them by their present government representative, employer or spouse. "Maybe that other option will be worse?" they think, not wanting to risk the chance of things being equal or even better.

This city( province and country too) has a bunch more people in it than it did 15 years ago. Most of them have absolutely nothing in common with the previous majority, nevermind the guys on this forum.
When was the last time you walked through a mall or downtown Calgary?
And your somehow surprised Nenshi won?
It's not the Calgary I grew up in...
And there is no changing it.

UCP supporters were saying that this election was going to show Alberta that people want To go back wards in thinking. Apparently not! 2019 check!

Stunning...simply stunning. I get a kick out of the people who didn't vote for Smith because "he didn't have any experience as mayor"...if this is their critical thinking criteria we will be stuck with Nenshi in perpetuity, or until another mayor decides to run.
Four more years of this....GAWD!!!

True but I think many were just scared of changing to a guy they didn't know much about. Everyone talks the talk but when crunch time came they couldn't change. Sucks to be us for 4 more years I guess.

Smith does have to own the results of his vague platform though, he should have had some specific courses of action posted instead of (and I'm paraphrasing here) "We'll work on that". People wanted to know how he'd have 'worked on that'. He had a decent showing but the holes in his game were too big to overlook for some voters.
With the various trolls that popped up in social media feeds for Nenshi one wonders if those were simply lone wolves, arms length supporters of Smith or even something planned. Heck, the dumber sounding Trolls could have even been from Nenshi's side with the intent of making the supporters of the other choice appear utterly witless. One can't trust any anonymous platform these days. Check the profiles of many troll accounts and they're new or just a few months old, have no personal info, few (if any) friends and are about as substantive as a vacuum.

Nobody will say it But I sure has hell will <THIS ISNT THE Calgary WE ALL KNEW .
This mayor won on race and religion ,Look at the districts that voted and its clear how and why he won and only marginally ,The people that finally voted against this tyrant have made it known he is not as popular as he thinks .
The purple barney ranted on about race and religion as he whimpered his fear of losing ,and thus it helped him win
There its been said now I can be banned for having a voice .

I know of some people who would have voted for Nenshi simply because they'd consider it racist to vote for anyone else when there was a visible minority candidate to support. I did vote for him first round, and I'm drawing a blank on my choices for the previous election but I think that politicians are like underwear and need changing with some regularity. Sadly, we didn't have a Hazel McCallion option (a mayor who was loved by all and served as mayor of Mississauga for 36 years until she retired 3 years ago).

The worst part for me is that Nenshi, and the other dreadful incumbents like Farrell and Colley-Urqhuardt won't look in the mirror and realize what this election was telling them, they'll view it as an affirmation of their ways and continue pushing their agendas even harder.
Even if you throw out the unfortunate vote splitting amongst the "fringe" candidates, almost half the population voted for another candidate simply because he was NOT named Nenshi. Bill Smith completely blew it by being too vague and not seizing the moment, but like I said, Nenshi won't see it that way, he's far too arrogant.

You are right. His campaign had huge holes. I voted for him, but really didn’t feel good about it... Hopefully Nenshi got the message on taxes. I doubt it, but we’ll see.

It seems there has been a lot of that “courting a religion” stuff in politics. Pretty blatant examples in the USA, in Canada, and even Alberta. Is nothing sacred
