Went for a thigh-burning walk on the slopes of the Peace River valley today, bumped some mulies but couldn't tell for sure if any were bucks. No bone on the ground, just tons of marbles and tracks. Quite a bit of moose sign too.

Last year they were still carrying well into March in the Hines Creek area. Finally spent a whole day walking around and found 15 total.

Got to like it, when shed hunting goes good and have to improvise a rig to carry the sheds, nice belt.

Always seem to find the ugly dead heads, never a nice clean typical or knarly non typ.

Usually leave the small sheds for the squirels but this pair of spoon and crickets were just too cute.

6 on the brow, and a good size pan. Been out in the weather for a few years. Found a post shed bull skull in the same meadow, prerhaps hes wolf chit.

It definitely has been an "off" year for sheds in my neck of the woods. In the past, when we've experienced cold November's and December's with lots of snow, I usually start finding whitey sheds around Christmas and continue finding them through April..with the bulk of them being found between mid-January and early March. And the mule deer sheds are usually found later.
But this year, maybe because of the easy winter thus far, things have been different! I found a matched set of mulie sheds in late January while on my trapline. I do believe that is the first time my first shed of the year is a muley shed and not a whitetail...
I have been watching two good groups of whitetails but they were still packing for the most part. Then finally...approximately 2 weeks ago, I went out and quickly found 9...I posted the pics on this thread a while back...and I thought the floodgates had opened...
Nope!!! I went out checking the easy spots daily (feeding areas) for the next 10-12 days and NOTHING!!!
Finally had a bit of luck a couple days ago, I found this matching set...

I've never seen an antler small enough to leave in the bush.

Saw 5 mulie Bucks around Calgary today; biggest was 150ish and all still had both antlers.
Keep the posts coming; want to get out once the Bucks drop around Calgary and get my 1 year old chocolate lab that I have been training as a shed dog out; think he will do great as he never misses when I work him with last years antlers.

That's got to be exciting, I wish I had trained our lab when he was younger. It's tough to get an 8 year old deaf lazy porch dog fired up.

And right before dark...about 15-20 minutes ago, I took a quick look in the same field and saw good numbers...including some good bucks still packing.

I'm posting pics from my phone and can't figure out to post multiple pics in one post. If anyone can help figure out how to do this...please pm me.

Just get a photo bucket account and copy and paste the image code. Works the same for the first one as it does for the forth. Also nice big pictures.

Looks like things are picking up for everyone. I've found 7 in the past week but after transferring some pics of them to my laptop, it crashed.
Will post some pics after I get it fixed.
Sitting at 20 for the year.

Found this one today...it's a match to the one I found and posted yesterday. Interestingly enough, it was dropped within 20 yds of where I found the match 24 hrs earlier...even though the bedding area is over 1/2 mile away. Lots of country he could have dropped in during those 24 hrs but he ended up shedding them both within a small area. I actually got pics of him carrying the single antler right at dusk yesterday.

After picking the one above, went another 150 yds or so and found this matched set. I actually didn't see the second one until I looked up from taking the picture...
