Default Trophy Sheep Draw Question

So i'm 18 years old and i'm going to start putting in for sheep, to build my priority... Sounds like I might as well just put in for the lottery-438. Thoughts? If you could start when you were 18 would you take your 0.4% chance with the lottery or 999 it for ever? And if you would put in for the non-lottery draw, what WMU?

Thanks!
Spencer

the only non lottery draw that you will ever draw now is the 410 archery tag even then your looking at 10-15 years if nothing changes other than that the rest are impossible

I drew 438 after two years trying. So you might get lucky or never get drawn. I would just hope to get the lottery draw, unless you bow hunt, then I would go for 410 for sure.

If you are healthy and active you can just hunt the general open seasons. No need to play the draws.

That being said, if you have plans to stay in alberta for the next 10-15 years start building points. You are young and have time to wait.

Changes to the draw priority system are coming soon. possibly as early as next year.

Right now the leading proposal is for all draws to be capped at a priority of ten. If this happens, it would take at most a P10 to have a chance to draw any hunt.

With this in mind, hunters without any Trophy sheep priority might now want to get into the game.

One guy has drawn 438 Trophy Sheep 3 times, that is one that should go to a once in a lifetime draw. IMHO

No it was Morton's cousins brothers sister.

BRIEF: Currently there are several hunting draws in Alberta that do not use the priority system for choosing a license recipient. Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development says that “because of the limited number of licenses available, the draw priority system will not be applied” to certain draws. Currently one of these draws has less than a 0.5% chance of being drawn. Currently, one of these limited opportunity draws (Mountain Goat) does not allow drawn applicants to apply in future years (once in a lifetime opportunity). This being said, one person has drawn the WMU 438 Trophy Sheep Special License three times. Another person has drawn the Special Bison season twice. These types of hunts should be limited to a once in a lifetime opportunity

Once in a lifetime to draw and then have to buy the ministers tag if you want to hunt it again after that

Nov16_01.jpg438 lottery?? I have a horse shoe up u know where, I was the first to win and the first season. Shot a B&C ram on the first day by lunch. It was all skill and tenacity LOL, I was so out of shape it almost killed me ha ha, spend some time talking to experts, put the time in scouting and getting in shape, and be prepared to stay the full 10 days, and........u need some horse shoes up your well u know. It was one of the hardest things I have done and yes winning it more than once is wrong, once you win you should be removed from the lottery, Wish you the best man.
