Default Meat buck down boys!!

Just wanted a meat buck for fishin and fire snacks…. Started to get lil frustrated with the lack of results…. Wolf tracks…. Grizz track…

But gimme a heavy snowfall….. jus need to cut a track. 175+ yards with the 7mmrm and the new scope…. (Thanks Dick284 for the advice on that)

It was a picture perfect hunt…….. really good shot… cept mr. dead deer ran another incredible 75 yards into the thick nasties …… ugh.

No way was I gonna drag him off the ridge. Nice easy blood-snow trail… he was leaking on both sides…

So I took my time an broke him down… packed him out in one slogging trip.

Nice 4x4 drive in the heavy snow…!

Great times!

Sounds like a successful evening, congrats!

Did you pack that out or use a sled? One trip carrying would be quite a load.

Both front quarters and the back straps and neck trim all went in my pack
Rifle slung on back

Two cloth packed Hinds hand drug behind me

It was a chore

No sled….. dammit….

The meat bucks are definitely easier to find than the veggie bucks.

I dunno Dewey

We call em stump deer.

They’re harder to pack out by my estimation..

Congrats Bessie! That's a fine buck.

Familiar with the country you hunt, and it's far from easy walkin'. Well done on the pack out.

See Bessie? That's how it works out when you listen to your friends and take the Thumper out to hunt with, instead of the .303 wall hanger....

Good job bud.

I KNOW I coulda pounded that deer with my trusty .303.

It was nice to have thumper out and verify that my time at the range tuning up and zeroing the scope was worth it.

Also that my previous scope on it actually failed… I was so reluctant to admit that.

…….. but .303 needs to go on a hunt soon

Great job Bessie - looks like he will taste great.

I used a heavy plastic sheet (like a crazy carpet) a few times. Slit a few holes to lace up front like a canoe and along the length every foot or two and run the rope out the front and tie the quarters down and pull. Works with any little bit of snow like a charm. Rolls up nice in the pack and takes only a few minutes to lace up.

Nicely done Bessie. Looks like you got more snow than we got here in 312. All gone by yesterday. Got the deer moving though, but still not enough for elk to come down.
