A very fine buck. I got two wt this year, a tiny button buck that weighed 50 lbs on the hook: skinned, head off, front feet off. Only back feet still on to string him up by. Not large, but very very tender. The front shanks were almost like tenderloin! The second buck was a 4 pointer, weighed 100 lbs once beheaded and skinned, front feet off. It was light enough I could drag it out of the woods 600 meters on my own, over some deadfall too. Was able to flop it into the truck by driving into the ditch and backing against the road shoulder.

Nice deer; I always bone out my deer and weigh them as I take the meat for sausage etc. I have found Farm WT deer weigh quite a bit more then a bush WT deer. Biggest buck boned out from the bush was 76lbs and the biggest doe was 57. Biggest doe from farm was 66 (fat all over it)and my buck this year was shocking as it weighed 91 lbs . Nice 4x4 genetics but not much mass but I think a older animal judging by its teeth.

Wow nice buck! Funny to see this topic as hubby and I were just talking about weights/ages the other day. We've never had our animals weighed but this year, we switched butchers. This new butcher weighs all animals that come through the door. All animals coming in are skinned/gutted/heads off & all four legs are off. My husbands WT weighed in at 151 lbs & my WT came in at 105 lbs. We were both able to load my deer in no problem but we had to use the hoist to get his deer in. Both deer were 4x4's and both came out of K country. Interesting post and I hope more folks share their deer weights too! Congrats to all and good luck to those still out there ;o)

Interesting to weigh the odd one. Game & birds will surprise us every so often when we go to load them.

I shot a large 5 x 4 in 1999 that I couldn't load into my slightly lifted 1979 Blazer which was never a problem before. At the butchers free of legs and trimmed of fat tipped the scales at 205#. I didn't realize it at the time how big that beast was as it was only the 4th deer I've ever harvested in my life.

Our Muley buck tipped the scales at 315lbs all in. It was all 3 big boys could handle (dead and flex weight) to get him in the truck. Saw 2 bigger, and saw a WT out pheasant hunting that was an axe handle across the back...just a tank that I am sure would push 400lbs.. some big bodied deer out there for sure

deer weight
I have been weighing the meat from every deer i have shot for the last 25 plus years. i have noticed that in the last 5 years or so the meat yield has been getting better.
I cut as much fat etc as i can off but get every last scrap. 5 years ago was the first time I got 90 lbs. My daughter then had the record of 98 lbs for a couple years. Last year I shot a TANK but rack was just OK not a wall hanger. Shattered the weight record with 116 lbs !!!! Doubt i'll ever get a buck that heavy again.
I got 96 off this years buck and 57 off my doe. My daughters was 75

Holy Smokes!
I must be shooting small bodied deer, or my butchering skills need a serious tune up. Those are some big numbers. Good for you!

I took my deer to the butcher last week and he weighed in at 150 lbs. I’m guessing he would have went around 220 lbs or better with the hide, head and guts.

Buck ended up at 74 lbs, no bone, no fat.
Compared to 42 lb on my doe.
And I’m anal, I’ll strip all ribs etc.
Better part of a day for me to do a deer in this manner.

There is at times, the odd freak deer, where growth hormones kick in and live weight is far above the average weight.
I'm not sure what age has to do with it past the normal mature 4-5 year deer.
From what I have seen and read thought, WTs will normally be heavier than MD.

Oh man I'd question that last sentence.

Yep me too. Have saw some freakishly large Mule deer over the years. Much bigger than a large whitetail.

I just had a conversation on the Fort McMurray Hunters page, a fella said he got 140lbs of meat from his Whitetail, butchered by Premium Meats. I butcher myself and got 76lbs deboned with all fat removed from this fella. There was no shot damage, in and out through the ribs. I suppose I could of got maybe another few lbs of grind if I would of wasted a few hours and scrapped the carcass clean. But there is no way anyone is getting 140 lbs of meat from a white tail IMO.

I take between 4 to 6 hours to completely debone, and vaccum seal a deer. I was wondering if I was just excessively slow as you see those videos on you-tube of guys butchering a deer in 30 minutes.

I am pretty thorough when it comes to trimming and cutting. It likely takes me a bit longer. I have done quite a few and can run a knife decently, just takes time to not make a hack job out of it.

I have never weighed anything I harvested but I've been present when the weights of different game species were discussed.
When I worked highways I got to load a dozen or more Deer a year. I know what I can lift easily. My limit is about 220 lbs over that and I struggle.
I've had to winch a fair number of Deer into the back of a work truck.
Out of curiosity I did some research.
According to The Canadian Wildlife Federation, Deer size varies from one area to the next with some area's [producing Deer that can weigh as much as 400 lbs.
One site claimed that;
Quote:
the heaviest whitetail ever shot was killed by a bow-hunter, John Annett of Ontario, in 1977. The deer field dressed 431 pounds on government-certified scales. That would have given it an estimated live weight of more than 540 pounds.
|
I have no idea how reliable that is but I did find another story of a Deer that weighed close to that, again I can't verify.
For years I've been hearing that there is a subspecies. They are supposedly the largest subspecies of Whitetail.
One site said;
Quote:
Dakota whitetails are regularly tagged weighing more than 300 pounds on the hoof.
|
As I understand it their are found in the southern part of the Prairies from Manitoba to the Rockies.
But again I have no personal experience with weighing any game.
