Default More culling in 151

Well the rumours abound about more deer that need to be killed to prevent the possible spread of CWD, and I hear that a new population of animals has been located and another 500 are to be killed, which should bring the total up to about 2200 animals taken along the Sask border, in 151, and 150. Really sad. FS

its really a double edged sword.
as a trophy hunter i agree, as a untrained naturalist i disagree
151 is typically one of the best trophy zones ab has to offer

It just seemed too easy...several years ago to go out and buy animals, put up an 8' fence, feed these animals as livestock and cram them in on a density several hundred times what is found in nature. Everyone scoffed at the idea that these domesticated wild animals would interfere with the wild stock.

And then one day it happened, we had our first confirmed case of CWD...and now several more. And the regulatory bodies that forgot their role years ago are now figuring a way to mass slaughter herds to limit the ingrowth. With animal mobility these culls are slowing the progress, I haven't heard of a way of reversing it.

I too am disappointed that this situation has gone so far...not really surprised though.

Just my $0.02

first time on AO message board, and pretty pumped to be here. Long time subscriber. From the south near Brooks, and seeing it first hand, really too bad, but not sure there are any other options. Wish this had been dealt with a long time ago. this whole farming thing..... but have to believe in the science. I suppose in 20 years we will know if we went the right direction with this thing????

keep a strain on er....

Have heard some rumers as well. They are trying to prevent it from spreading in the suffield block where there is no hunting. And the military will be involved in this cull using heliocopters and the target will be 2000 animals.
