Default Browning B78

So I got a Browning B78, was going to put my scope on it, but the front ring is to far out and is hitting the front bell on the scope. So Looking online, I did see a couple of pic's of B78 with the front Base was turned backwards. Which would do it for room! Or is it better to get a extended front ring or???? Thanks BB.

Stating the type and style of rings and bases would give you better replies.

How bout a picture or two, as I’m not intimate with Browning rings and bases, which I suspect is just someone else’s re branded rings and bases.

Edit: likely Burris mounts.

Turning them backwards is a long accepted way to move some scopes further back. Depending on your barrel contour there should be no difference on a factory barrel to how solid the front base is. If you have an off taper for some reason then extended base or some Devcon can usually address the issue. All of mine I just mounted backwards but I only had two and both were the Octagonal barrels..

Spin the front base 180 degrees.

Browning makes the flush mount stock swivel and a barrel band front swivel specifically for the 78. You should be able to order them and if you are handy self install. If not, a good gunsmith can do it in under an hour.
Pictue shows an Octagon barrel, like I said above just mount the front base the other way round.

I have a sling with with correct pachmayr flush mount sling swivels. I was intending on selling it because I am changing the wood and swivel type on my B78, but I just haven't got around to posting it. If you are interested PM me.

In regards to the scope mount, you can try the Talley one piece base for B78s/1885s. I think B78's/1885s are great but an obvious drawback is that they do tend to limit your scope options.

I don’t believe they are “adjustable “ they have a deflector than can be utilized

My 1885 has case deflector. Left, right or center. Center leaves the case on the rifle to be removed. The other two I haven't tried but assuming that it allows the case to eject one way or another.

Nice rifle, they are fun to shoot. Enjoy.

I have the manual for mine, not sure if its the same as B78. Mines a newer model so may be different. If you want can borrow to look at.

I've owned a bunch of B78's and 1885's love 'em all!
They usually didn't last long before they got rebarreled though!
These are just a few.....

What is the chambering of your B78?
I have one in 6 mm Rem, haven't had much opportunity to shoot it, but it's a neat rifle.

The first one is my son's 6.5/284, really radical barrel!
Bigger than the standard heavy varmint they originally came with but the same weight due to the very wide flutes .
The two on the thevbench were chambered in 6.5/WSM, one is still in that and owned by a fella on Calgary. The other went into 6.5WSSM, then rebarreled into 250AI.
The last one is my latest in .260 Remington , 26" with Ron Smith's favorite taper for a hunting rifle .
All barrels are built by Ron Smith with gain twist , and Ron chambered the last one .
The others had the barrel work done the great 'smith Mick McPhee who has since gone to quieter ranges .
All were- are super accurate as well

The last one is actually an 1885 , originally a 16.5" trapper model on 30/40 Krag.
Traded it for another shotgun I wasn't using - now I have another single shot in .260 I am not using LMAO!!
