Thumbs up Sturgeon bait?

Heading down to elk point area for a first time ever attempt at sturgeon.
Got a few questions though.
Bait...what to use?
Use normal pickerel type rig set up or a heavy weight at bottom of line then another line further up with the bait?
Single hook or treble?
I will be winging it but got to get this neat fish of my anglers list.
Getting tired of lakers and the 30lbs er is still out there....
Thanks for any assistance
Tight lines all.

Use worms, shiners or small smelt
A single barbless hook (1/0) on a 18-24" leader from a 2oz weight.
Good luck!

Thanks, just watched a video where the hook went through the head and then you basically wrapped the line around the rest of the fish half hitch style, seems to be a good method.

There is a good sturgeon hole very close to the Windsor salt plant. Down river about half a mile.

Cool Naughta

Well went up, went down river, 6 hrs, managed to go over small Rapids, got boat hung up on rocks, jumped out,got it unstuck...new dent going to pound out today, adds character and not a freaking bite, ohhhh something chewed on the smelt...beautiful country though, maybe too impatient and wanted to explore more than fish...all I can say is watch out for the rocks, river is thick brown Color and things pop up and get ya!
Got a good sunburn too...now out to repair the vessel for its next adventure
