Default Dog Urine on house

I have a lake house and a nieghbour's dog keeps coming over and peeing on the house. There are now spots on the parging. I have spoke to the dog owner a couple times and nothing changes. I get an apology and a nice: I'm not going to tie up the dog. Their place is a few lots down the road from mine. I am getting frustrated and want this solved. Any suggestions?

I like the sprinker idea. We shut the well pump off when we are not there though. Also not much of a solution for cold weather.

Catch the dog when it’s on your property. Call dog catcher and have it taken to the pound. Maybe the owner will realize he should do something about his dog after that.

Default Dog Urine on house

Since the dog owner is aware of the history of his dog peeing on your house, send him a bill for the damages. Nothing like money out of pocket to get his attention.

I am really starting to question what AO is turning into. Just how inane can the questions possibly get, and how socially incompetent do you have to be to not be able to figure out how to deal with something as inconsequential as your neighbour's dog peeing on the corner of your house. What is the next question that will beat this one on the dumb down scale?

P.S. Don't bother telling me if I don't like a thread to just move on, I get to have an opinion whether you want to hear it or not.

Do you see the dog do this? Is he friendly? Will it come to you? If so get a dog kennel (I have one you can have) lock it up till the neighbor comes looking and explain why you did it. Keep it watered. Or take it to the local pound and say it's a stray. I don't know

This is a bad owner who is irresponsible. I wouldn't retaliate against the dog, at least not in a way that would harm him or make him ill.

I would go over to the neighbor, and simply state, in a neutral tone ..... "if you are unwilling to take action to prevent your dog, who you are legally responsible for, from doing damage to my property, then be advised that I will take action to protect my property".

Calm tone - if they ask for clarification just repeat the exact same thing and don't engage n any further dialogue.

Leaving this statement (which he may view as a threat) as an "open ended statement" and not explaining anything beyond may cause his mind to run wild with ....... legal? shooting? ....... poisoning ? and he will likely step in and curb this situation. The human mind, is paranoid, and protective of his loved ones (assuming he loves his dog). Trust me .... it will keep him up all night.

Sometimes that the best thing to do - let your neighbor beat himself. No need to escalate this. This worked for one of my neighbors who had a dog that went straight to my front yard to take a crap. Everyday, twice a day, when I moved out. Did exactly what you did and got nowhere until I did that ......... next day ........ no more unsupervised dog let out by a lazy and irresponsible owner.

I use baking soda for my GWP and it works great. I just pour the soda directly on the area and hose it down. It doesn’t kill my grass either! By doing this I’ve slowly moved the dog back to where I want him to pee. My dog run gets maintained daily.

If your neighbour has been spoken to and doesn't get it, this would ne my approach. Or pee on your neighbour's house. Your choice.

100% this, you have tried being civil, it's time mister self centred pet owner discovers that other people who own property have rights also

Buy the neighbor a beer.
Opposite approach.
Might work.
Worth a try.

Put something more attractive out for the dog to pee on and Mark his territory. Maybe even add another dog’s scent to it so he’ll want to cover it up.

Or, just fence the yard, solves a lot of problems.

I had a similar problem many years ago. Neighborhood dogs marking territory on a tree in our yard in Wetaskiwin.

Easy fix. Six feet of chicken wire and a fence charger put an end to that.
Doesn't do the dog any damage but sure nuff educates them quick.
