Default Shipping Proccessed Moose Cross Country?

Anyone ever shipped a processed moose across the country? I’ll have an opportunity to hunt moose in NB but not sure I want to drive, rather fly

You can debone, freeze and ship it in dry Ice by air, but you probably are not going to like the price. We bring in Lobster from down east like that but it is 40 or 50 pounds at a time, not 500 lbs. I would call the airline and check out the price for air freighting that much weight.

Last time we sent a 1/4 moose, deboned, home with a hunter by plane it was almost 250 bucks and that is 4 years ago. If it were me, I would eat a bunch there, leave the rest and buy Ribeye back here. It will most likely be cheaper than shipping the moose.

Just pack what you can in luggage and bring it with you when you fly back here. I've done it before a few times, 3 whole suitcases on wheels full of meat. I put each portion into XL Ziploc bags and then triple bagged the whole deal with heavy duty garbage bags and taped the end closed. It was all still frozen solid when I got back to Edmonton. If you ship it as cargo you run the risk of it getting bumped from the flight, I wouldn't chance it.

Don't know how long ago you did this but in todays world. domestic flights on Air Canada first checked bag $25, second $35 limit 50 pounds each. Each additional 50 pounds bag is $105. If you are over even half a pound excess weight charge is $250 a bag. If you are flying down with a gun and gear, you are already using the two cheap checked bag allowances. So if you are bringing back 400 pounds of meat it is going to cost you about $1050 (you need to account for the weight of the suitcase) as baggage. While that only works out to $2.50 a pound it is still a lot of money in aggregate. You can ship air freight on the same flight you are flying if you arrange it in advance.

Last time was two years ago. But yes, agreed, CAF members get 3 free checked bags up to 75 lbs each that's why it works out for me. It may not be viable for everyone with the baggage fees.
