First Ram
It was a pretty exciting day yesterday when Brian from Aartistic taxidermy called me to tell me that my Ram was ready for pick up , Now I sit and stare at it and , memories of such a wicked hunt all refresh my memory, this was a hunt of a life time for me , can’t thank the guys enough for letting a green horn Ram hunter fill a dream .
Brian does some unreal work and turnaround time was outstanding .

Congratulations.
Mind me asking how much length to spare this guy had when placed into the measuring jig?
New to sheep hunting and working on my ability to judge sheep.

My guess is that he is 2 inches past legal on his left by the way he tips you, and about 1.5 in his right side.
Kinda pulling numbers out of thin air without a good profile, but that is my guess. This is by no means a squeaker.
Again, great LOOPY ram. Congrats.

Really close in your guessing
2.5 inches on one side and just under 2 on the other . Thanks for the comments , not sure I could ever top
This experience.

Thought I would share my hunt in a small story , I started to get into a little better shape because year prior I was overwhelmed of how hard this hunting was . After lots of planning with good buddies , we met Aug 21 at staging area with all the horses and gear. And started our 2 day pack trip to base camp , some amazing country and when I could I would take it all in , I was pretty green on the horses but all went well kind of lol , we never really seen much for rams in the the days prior to opening day lots of Ewes and smaller rams only. Opening day came and it was much of the same. Aug 27 in camp my good buddy that has a ton of experience pipes up and says , I will go with you in the morning where should we go he ask . Something told me that we need to go back to the drainage I had been in opening morning with my other buddy . So bright and early had some oatmeal and looked after our horse and headed in , I decided to travel in on horse and other 2 km more then previous. Once we tied our horses up we began our trek on foot for only a short time before my buddy that was in front of me and dropped to his knees grabbing his spotting scope out of his pack looking back at me he gestured that there were rams across the drainage.
I crawled up to him and we set up thinking they would be coming towards us , Within minutes my buddy turns and says holly S there are more behind us , once looking he says that’s the same ones and they crossed all ready . We both spot the bigger ram Right away as they are moving quickly up the mountain , I rest my 7mm-08 browning and he says 502 yards dialled up and boom he says you missed , i rack another round and he says 510 boom and we can here the hit , Ram stumbles I go to get up emotions going nuts he says shoot again he is not down , rack another round and boom another miss , then I had one more round and only seconds before the ram going out of sight trying to calm my nerves I squeezed the trigger and down he goes for good . The emotional experience of this hunt will never be topped , having my kids was the best experience and this was right behind . I practiced a fair bit at 500 yards over the summer and it paid off , I am not that good of a shot but it all worked out . I can’t thank my hunting buddy enough , and the rest of the crew , thanks for reading .

Terrific ram, especially for your first! Congratulations.
Thanks for your story; it brings back some great memories!
Did you get an estimate of its age? I make 7 or 8 years old?
