Spring Bear Sightings

Hey guys. Getting excited for bear season. Just wondering if anyone is seeing them out and about in their travels. Certainly not looking for anyone's spot, as I have my own, just whether or not any of you guys who travel during the week are seeing bears out munching on the newfound greenery.

Seen a nice bear up north of ft Mac last night on way back to camp. He was having a snack on the pipeline.

Was out camping in 339. Saw some tracks but no bear sightings. Still too frozen. Itll be a few weeks.

A buddy did first bait check last night, bumped a bear off when he walked in. Setting our baits April 29th as one month of baiting is hard enough.

Is bear meat generally kept for eating or is bear hunting all about a trophy?

The meat is great! You must not waste the hide, but you can leave the meat behind if you don't want it, but it's good eating.

As for sightings, we are going to Fox Creek this weekend. Plenty out and about according to friends in the area and around the camps

Seen a bear down the canfor yesterday. Well operator said he seen 2 different sows with cubs this last week.

The roads are terrible right now!! I would delay your trip if you can. Any road that isn't one of the main high grade roads is not worth trying. When I left today it was raining pretty good and had snow on the ground.

Ain't that the truth. Nodwell would be advised up here. 6" of good wet snow on top of the 6" of mud but the bears should stand out well against the white and be easy to track.

I won't risk anything that will get me stuck, but can't postpone anything either. Get in there tomorrow night, hopefully the precipitation will calm down before then

Was out for a 4 day back pack hunt in the south west...wrong time and place but its what work would allow so I took it. No bear of either kind; one old bear scat. Lots of other wildlife which was fun, elk, moose, more deer than I could shake a stick at. Shut the trip down early due to 6" of snow overnight on unmaintaned rosds...it was a fun drive out.

We don't start until the middle of May. Lots of bears and the snowfall chances are greatly reduced.

Headed to Southern BC today after some dinosaurs

I'm sure I'll spot a bear on the road somewhere about 10 hours south of here ! lol

Bear hunting is not just about "TROPHY" the worst word in the hunting world! It's about predator management, which anti hunters can't seem to grasp the concept of...

I was down at my place in the east kootneys the other day. Still lots of snow. The lower valleys have just melted but most the side slopes are covered by a few feet.

And some hunters. As I hunter I hate the word trophy and the stigma it brings to hunting.

Last spring bear I saw was while returning from an early fishing trip to Canoe Lake. Could see this guy sitting in the ditch up ahead, grabbed the camera and he just sat there. As soon as I stopped the truck he got up and headed over. I'm sure if I hadn't pulled away he would have jumped right into the back of the truck.

A question for you bear hunters.......If you are hunting them in May, why is there such a demand for beaver carcasses for the beginning of April? You hang them that long?

I like to hang mine wrapped in burlap u dee a 5 gal pail to keep the birds off. It hangs about 8'+ in the air so the bears can't reach them. It drips castor and nastiness for the whole baiting season and is a great attractant. In fact until this year I have rarely used beaver as a food source but rather an attractant.
