Default Wolf Bait

Anyone know if you can get the scraps/entrails from a butcher shop/slaughter house to use for bait, I'm thinking a few pails of guts/scraps would do the trick, or would that be regulated.

Default bait

By regulated I meant them not being allowed to give that stuff away, proper disposal etc of domestic animal parts

Hey Jason, not sure of the regs in Alberta for baiting wolves, but over here in BC you can only bait wolves during the winter (after bears have denned up). I'm telling you baiting with scraps of this and that are not the way to go. They cart off pieces. Wolves primarily hit bait during nocturnal hours, and have made off with alot of "stuff" that a buddy and I have put out. We still had a hard time with whole cattle that a rancher gave us after a couple cows died during calving.
Have actually had better luck howling to them than baiting. If a pack is in the area, even singles, you should get lucky, watch down wind, they're sneaky.

Default wolf bait

Thanks man, makes good sense, I had the whole pack howling back to me last week (errie feeling) but they never came in, I guess I was hoping I could set out the bait, get in a treestand and call em in.

Ya, just my own experiences. Baiting does work, but ya gotta spend a lot of time at it. Like I said, putting out bits and pieces of bait had the wolves cleaning up bait sites real quick, and quite often thru the nite.
Also, in the last two years, myself and friends have been getting alot of wolf action by moose calling, long moans and bull grunts have really been successful.
Do you know what it takes for a resident of BC to be able to hunt wolves in Alberta? I've got my WIN...what next?
