Yeah flying it out is easier, but way less fun and no opportunity to McGyver the extraction.

Good comments above on equalizing the load. The chain could be laid on the ground, then the rebar driven through the links. The shifting soils will take care of the rest as was pointed out by Baulde.

I'd hate to get in the way of the flying rebar if'n that setup were to let go. Yikes. I can just see them flying like javelins in a arc and skewering the busted up quad. Oh well.
