Default got a timber wolf today

oh.... my God! I shot a timber wolf today. Want the hide! Could anyone tell me how to preserve it before I send it to tan? Just freeze it? Thank you in advance!

You could probably take it to a taxidermist who would skin it properly (not saying you couldn't) and send it off to the tanners for you.

Beauty of a Wolf, Congrats And thanks for shooting a deermuncher.

leave it outside if possible to freeze. When you find someone to take it they can thaw before skinning.

If you are going to freeze it whole hang it by the back legs so that the guts shift towards the chest cavity to avoid green belly.

oh.... I have skinned it half way. Don't want to spend too much time tonight, because I have to work tomorrow. I think I could skin it properly (do my best).. but should I freeze the skin before send out for tan?

Would suggest complete skin then remove fat and board and dry. If not to long to taxidermy can freeze hide un boarded.

Skin
Turn and flesh
salt overnight
shake off wet salt and resalt
two days later shake off salt and air dry

Take to taxidermist or send to tannery

the more time taken or freezing and thawing the better chance it will slip

Good job! My understanding is across the province wolves are on bounty. If you take that wolf to a county or SRD office you will receive $300.
Saw the receipt from my good friend and was happy to hear about the incentive
Congrats
