I agree that you get what you pay for.
We pay hundreds if not thousands every year on gas, lodging, new gear and ammo. What's another 100 bucks for a GOOD mount over a cheaper guy?
Ben and Alex are the go to guys. Maybe in a few years there will be another somewhere in between those two. Time will tell.....

It is hard to find a good waterfowl taxidermist. Been mounting my own for 8 years, took 4 years and many attempts to get one I was satisfied with and 2 more years b4 getting to the point where most plp called them good. Will practice for 2-3 more years b4 getting my licence. I would def recommend the guy from advantage, seen work done by him and it's better than anything I've seen elsewhere in Canada. Only better stuff I've seen comes from guys in the US.
Price wise, good waterfowl taxidermy could run around 200$ for one bird, possibly more if u go for habitat base etc.

I think the price for a bird is alot higher than $200. I would think $500 upto a $1,000 for something with a nice base. It would be a little cheaper if the wings aren't open......I think.

Ben in Lethbridge at Art of Taxidermy hands down. Have had numerous items done by him all spectacular work. He specializes in birds as well.

You get what you pay for basically with bird taxidermy or taxidermy in general. Ask to see what work they have done and or get references to see how the mounts look after a while. Also don't judge how a taxidermists birds will look based off what their deer or other work looks. Birds are a totally different ball game compared to furred animals and fish. Make sure the bird you are taking in isn't shot up too badly in the head and neck as this is a lot harder to repair then other areas and if you want a flying mount try and get a bird that doesn't have the wings shot up to bad and especially the tip of the wings they are a pain to get them to look right in a flying mount. Once you see some good mounts you will notice the difference between good ones and the guy who had a friend of a friends uncle mount a bird for him. It takes a lot of time to get a good finished mount and that's why guys charge so much to mount a bird

Lol. Oops did miss a zero. Thanks for the catch.
(Going off a triple flying goldeneye mount a friend in Montana had done. Mounted on driftwood base with artificial water, coming in for landing. Think he paid 2300)

Just form a few quick e-mails form a guy that mounts water fowl for a nice mount with a nice base a $1000 should do it. Add birds and larger base the sky is the limit. So far I have 3 mallards in the freezer two drakes and one hen I plan on getting these done in memory of my dog Gauge's first season hunting. Still thinking on what kind of mount I wanted a dead mount but seen too many nice flying mounts. Maybe a drake, hen, drake flying mount but I will need a price estimate first lol. The wife may lose it if I spend $2500 on a mount.
Later
Phil

Once in a while I stop by Ben's shop in Lethbridge and chat abit with him. I was there today and he had a sick looking mount of a Grebe he had done for public exhibit. (first I didnt even know what bird that was), I asked him and he didnt mind me take a couple of shots. the whole thing looked too wet
check it out.

You need to talk to Alex of Advantage Taxidermy in Edmonton. You can see his birds (and other work) at WSS south in Edmonton - a must see! I have several birds by Alex and they are among the very best I have seen anywhere.

I cant speak much for bird mounts....but Ben is pretty amazing at what he does, he specializes in birds. He just finished my full body Cougar mount and it is flawless, couldn't be happier with it. I know when I find my road kill falcon or hawk who's getting it.
