Default .338 Lapua for hunting

Seems that having a .338 lapua in a long distance rifle is all the rage. I was just wondering if anyone has been out there with one of these.

Would you switch back to a 300 mag or similar after using the lapua ?
What kind of rig are you carrying around ?
What load are you using to hunt with ?

Just curious because I'm thinking of my next project and was considering one of these.

I picked up a .340 weatherby instead of a .338 Lapua. The Lapua costs a fortune to shoot for some reason because of there brass. I can load a .340WBY for way less and get almost the same performance. They are both great guns, but did'nt want to be on the "Lapua" band wagon like alot of my friends have.

I like the 7mm for long range hunting. I've downed a elk at 950 yards with it and don't imagine shooting past that at game. I use Berger bullets with 70.5 grains of H1000 and that bullet had no problem going through front shoulder and hitting vitals at that range. I can't imagine lugging around a 15lb gun for hunting either.

I have one, works well. Heavy though.

Use it for truck hunting or stands.
