Default Taking guns into the U.S.A.

Plan on hunting birds in Northeast Montana in October. I am just wondering what permits/documents a guy will need to cross the border into the States. I will likely only be taking one gun (over under) and some shells both steel and lead. I know that I need my passport and P.A.L. but what else?

Any thoughts about all the details I need to have covered to cross the border with a firearm and ammo???

Thanks.
