Default Curious about value of my 6.5-06

I have a Swedish Mauser Model 96 6.5-55 reamed out to a 6.5-06 that is floated and bedded with a sporter stock and tinkin trigger. It has a Nikko Sterling 3-9x40 scope.

Just wondering the value as i have been considering selling this rifle as i'm getting tired of loading my own shells, have all the data needed for reloading, absolutely love this gun as it's been my first and only rifle too date.

I'm sure i'll have some people trying too send me too gun nuts for value but i hate that site, so just a general idea would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Depending on the condition?? i'd say $900 including the scope.

Whitetail, have I ever got a bunch of firearms for sale for you! I think you are probably estimating it's value a little high. You understand that this is a sporterized, rechambered military rifle right?

Same here. I would put it`s value in the $400 range.

Kind of strange to have a 96 Mauser in 6.5-06.....

Kind of what I was thinking Eric. Probably $450 condition dependant. I would also want to consult a gunsmith as to whether a 6.5/06 should even be built off of a 96 action. Some light reading that reflects what I was thinking. http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/i...p/t-35246.html

What they discussed on the thread you mentioned is some of the reasons I understand not to rechamber a 96 Mauser to 270 Win, 30-06 or 6.5-06. Plus the 6.5 mm bullets are nice and long, why would you wanna have that long bullet sticking way into your cartridge to fit in the magazine?

But, if the rifle is shooting well and is enjoyed, continue on shooting it. I wouldn't load to the redline with it though.

I have a 98 Mauser in 6.5x55 with a shot out throat that I might get rechambered to 6.5 Gibbs. I have a 30 Gibbs and a 338 Gibbs that I really like.

IIRC, I sold/traded to predator a '98 actioned target rifle with a fresh Border barrel, target stock, single point match sling and A.J.Parker sights - the equivalent of $400-$450?
That should give a decent baseline.

http://outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=65724 It's not a 6.5-06, but it's probably similar. I've had some inquiries, but it's still not vacated my safe.

Predator,

Thanks for the read, seems to me that the issues seem to be with the 6.5-06 ackley improved and not the straight 6.5-06 itself. I've been shooting the rifle for 9 years now and haven't had any problems with bulging in the brass.
I am using .270 shell casings.
My father is using 30.06 out of his 6.5-06 not sure if it is the Swdish m96 though.
The shells chamber perfectly fine and don't seem too long for the gun, the gunsmith even told me the 140gr are pushing 3000fps.
That is the one thing i do love about this gun is how fast and flat it does shoot.
I have dropped a deer at 650yds dead in it's tracks.(won't even attempt a shot like that again!!)
Maybe i'll keep her around for sentimental value, i do love the versatility as i comfortably shoot deer, moose and elk all with great success.

Anyways thanks for the insight, i've always hunted but because of this site i'm starting to be more and more curious of the guns i own!! Maybe that comes with age

To be honest, I'm happy that you love the gun. It has worked well for you, not sure why you'd want to change it because selling a 6.5-06 on a sporterized M96 action *may* be a very very hard sell I would think. Even if the price was "right" I doubt many people are looking for one.

I would try for $300-$350 if it's in GREAT shape and go from there if you still want to sell it.
