New grass
We took a large elm down in the back yard that was on it's way out last summer and had the stump ground out. Now we're looking for someone to come in and reomove the old grass and stump grindings and lay new sod. Can anyone recommend someone in the Edmonton area? Thanks much!

I seen a video where people take some BBQ charcoal and light it on top of the stump and it burns it down to the roots .
Has anyone tried this ....does it work ?

Seems like a good 1 hour job Saturday morning, just stop at garden centre and pick up the sod. PS water the sod well in this dry weather.

That might not be the best idea with the dry conditions we are enduring. I've rented a stump grinder in the past. They work great. Top soil, fertilizer, sod, fertilizer and water. Keep it wet for a week or two and you'll be all good.

I’ve done similar but, as mentioned, not a good year for it by the looks of things. I drilled a bunch of 1” holes into the stump with a spade bit and then filled with ATF. Topped them up as it was taken up by the stump. I then used a 45gal drum with no bottom over the stump. Built a proper fire and then tossed in a bunch of coal. It’s no quick process as the roots need to die out and dry but it burned out the entire stump and much of the roots. I’ve since just gone to the stump grinder for expedience and what not.

You used to be able to buy chemical stump remover, but no more, apparently it can go BANG.

A wee bit more than a one hour job for this old guy and yes, I know to water it very well.

I'm going to say around 600sq ft. The back yard is odd shaped but, around 20x30ft.

You can still buy it at Home Hardware. I bought a pound of it a week ago, but they had to record my drivers license...lol. A Karen behind the desk lectured me on terrorism. I told her that my next stop was at Cabela's to get some black powder. For my 50 cal of course.
Waiting for my CSIS visit now.
