Default Rifle Butt Stock Cover/Cheek Riser

On the hunt for a Rifle Butt Stock Cover/Cheek Riser for my Sako 85 Bavarian

I feel like I cannot always get a solid cheek weld consistently

Looking for something in leather ideally, possibly also with options for holding some cartridges

Something along these lines - but wondering if anyone has any specific experience with these on their Sako 85?

Check out Ebay. Tourbon makes a decent one. I have bought several Tourbon products and they are quite nice

Some closed cell foam and hockey tape will work, but not if you’re a “fancy” dude who wants things to look just so.

The biggest trick is figuring out exactly how much rise you want on the pad. Once you know that you will know which one to buy, though some you can special order different rise heights as well as number of shell loops. Remember that with shell loops the gun is no longer Left Hand friendly if that makes a difference. Also, I would stay away from the ones that have one or two leather straps that go over the butt plate. These are a pain to deal with for many reasons and not required if the unit is properly built for the specific firearm, They are a cheat for universal fit pads.

LOL, nothing wrong with a little closed cell foam and a little tape. I have made some quite pretty ones over the years. Sometimes I even gussy them up by using camo tape. When you make your own your own, you can make them to fit both you and your rifle.

It amazes me how so few rifles have a high enough stock for most shooters. The only ones that fit me well are the old model 70 and the ole Sako stocks.

Most of the Euro style or hog back ( Bavarian is one) stocks are nearly impossible to get a decent cheek weld with if using a scope. Classic or American style stocks or Monte Carlo style are much more likely to allow good scope/cheek alignment.

It's Beartooth. I have used one to raise the comb on my kids first 22 so that they could use a scope like Dad. I have also used it on a shotgun when shooting slugs from my scoped cantilever barrel. It works well enough.

Triad tactical large modular stock pack. You have to order from the states. The packs are worth it. Buy an extra pack of riser strips for $4 if you are going really high.

Part of the problem now is that many people are going to 30mm or even 34mm tubes on scopes with a 50mm or 56mm bell so they need high or extra high rings to get the bolt to clear, hence the stock seems to low to get the correct eye alignment. IMHO

I believe that's due to Western shooters being more likely to use scopes than our European counterparts. The Euro rifles are/were designed more with iron sights being used. I think that has changed a bit in the last few years.
