Upland Taxidermy...
I’m Very Happy with my first upland bird taxidermy which includes a female red phase ruffed grouse and A male Hungarian partridge.my goal is to get every Alberta upland bird species on the wall in my house and that includes all the color phase combinations for ruffed grouse.however the birds must be prime specimens or they won’t make the cut.
I have a perfect male spruce grouse and a big male red/bronze ruffie @ the taxidermist already. My guess is this adventure will take over a decade to complete but you got to start somewhere. The only upland I havnt shot in Alberta is the whitetailed ptarmigan and obviously the sage grouse which I’ll have to do in Montana or another state some year.
This year I got a 3 day blue grouse hunt planned and even a lead on some ptarmigan which is going to be tough but I am determined.im guessing a nice male sharptail @ the least will hit the ground for the wall in 2020...40” Rooster Is still my mounting goal but just might have to settle with 38” some day as I can’t seem to beat that.
Eitherway I can’t wait until hunting season already!

Awesome stuff and sounds like a great plan as well! Hoping to chase some sage grouse around this year if we end up making it down to Wyoming.

Very nice bird mounts. I especially like the colouration on that spruce grouse, it really stands out!!

There are a few ways but the most accurate way is to check the rump feathers on the grouse’s back just above it’s tail feathers...females have 1 white dot on its rump feathers and males have 2 white dots on the rump feathers.
