Default Brining skull mount into Canada?

I just shot my first hog down here in the US. I really want to get a skull mount, though I'm unsure of the laws regarding bringing back trophies into Canada. All the work will be done by the Taxidermist down here, but I understand their is some red tape to get through?

I just don't want to encounter a ton of regulations and hidden fees when the shipment arrives.

Thanks

DA

Default Canada customs

Go to Canada customs at the airport or declare it at the border crossing if you're driving. They'll want to know that it's been properly treated and they'll maybe want to inspect it for bugs that might hitch a ride. If they have any concerns they might make you have it fumigated, there's companies that do that but I don't know about them. The guys at customs will help you out, worst case scenario is you lose your stinky old pig skull .

I'm not bringing it back across the border myself. The taxidermist is going to ship it to me from the states when it's been boiled and treated.

Just bring it back and declare it at the border. No permit is required

legally you are supposed to stop on the U.S side and export it first. It will cost you $93U.S to do so. Then once on the Canada side if you tell them you have it, you will prob have to see the CFIA inspector and he will just look at it but there will be no costs on the Canada side but this is if you are doing it yourself. Other than that you will need to enlist someone with an import/export license to get it across for you.
We have one and are heading down there in October. I have brought animals back for other people and dealt with the U.S side and will be bringing animals back and stopping in there anyways.

I was told as long as you have a licence for it you can bring it across. I dont think you can buy a hog licence. I found this out by phoneing border agents who told me to call Canadian Meat Inspections, they told me anything with a licence is ok. Hogs are not, so I was told.

I declare my skulls and meat on my customs card and had no problems. No licence required means no paper work as far as I was told.

A friend brought my taxidermied hog head back from Texas as checked baggage. It's just a pig as far as Customs was concerned. A license is required for non residents to hunt hogs in Texas.
