For this plan to work, the players are going to have to commit to sound defensive hockey. Something the string of recent coaches all tried to do but could not. We saw that kind of game last night. If they were going to change out the coaches, I expected Gallant or even MacT to finish the year off. That does not mean that this hiring can't work.

Oh, and they are gonna need a goalie. Skinner can't take the majority of starts. Pickard is not the answer and Campbell might be done. That's two games in a row where he was not good, let in four goals in each game, I think.

I guess Jackson is putting his stamp on the organization. Sounds like Knoblauch was on his way up to an NHL job at some point. I get how it looks though. We shall see.

He was in the mix for the head coach job when they hired Tippett. So not a rash decision over the past couple days he was on the radar. They liked what they saw in him then to consider him for the job. He’s there now hopefully he can show them he’s the right guy to turn the season around.

What is it with NHL teams in Alberta? Fire the coach and the assistant to save the season. Look down the road in Calgary, firing the coach has not turned their season around. I personally don't think this will save their season. It would have made more sense to fire the goalie coach, and then Ken Holland. Holland has handicapped the Oilers with next to no cap space for this season.

Well, with a few wins in a row, it is definitely time to change the thread title back.

Even dead cats get a bounce.

Wouldn't rush to change anything until they're over 500 on the season.

Gregor reporting that Hollywood might be out a couple of months with a knee injury. He was just getting up to speed. Kid has the worst luck, injury wise.

One win at a time. Last night was a good character win. Coming back to tie and then win in overtime has to be a huge boost to the team. Long ways to go yet.

Pretty quiet thread when they suck. When they are rocking and rolling you guys are like a bunch of giddy school girls.

Hopefully our leaky inconstant starter can keep us in the game tonight..

Don't worry!! If they lose tonight they can always fire the coach to salvage the season. It's been such a successful strategy for them in the past! What has it been, 7 or 8 coaches in the last 10 seasons???? Lol.

Edmonton is currently 5-10-1 with 11 pts.

If 95 pts is required to make the playoffs, they'll need to go:

-0.636 win percentage for the remainder of the season;
-Get the equivalent of 42 wins; or,
-42-24.

Nine teams had a 0.636 win percentage or higher last season.
Currently their win percentage is 0.344%.

Definitely doable, but they have their work cut our for them.

Why? You seem to enjoy an Oilers loss. Kinda like popping a little blue pill.

I think Friedman said that Allen was the least likely of the three. Halak has been released from his PTO with Carolina.

I heard he is married to Katz Daughter ? If Katz feels the need to keep him on the payroll he should buy out Nurse and dress Schwartz as a defenceman and have him just skate back and forth in front of Skinner, Like a carnival target. It may be more effective.
Bring Cambel back as a goalie coach. Cuz, you know. Those who can do and those who can’t … teach .

I can’t see a 31 year old tender that’s been a career minor leaguer being their saviour ….

But hey I’m up for a Rocky type storyline like anyone else…
