Whatever bag you decide to get make sure it is EN tested. Independent laboratory testing not just the temp rating that the companies toss out.
Been sleeping in the mountains for a long time and my western mountaineering have never let me down.
Can’t say that for a lot of the manufactured bags out there.

Good prices and lightweight.
Thanks for the link. I just bought the -12 bag. Can’t argue with the price. If it works out, great. If not it’s a good non-backpacking bag at the very least.

Best give it a tryout in the backyard when it arrives. Buying a sleeping bag online is a bad idea imo. You get waht you pay for. Good luck

Still don't see anything against MEC being anti hunting......just a lot of chatter from the members here. Show me some evidence.....or not.

Default If weight isn’t an issue

I’m thinking of getting a new sleeping system.

What would you recommend for a sleeping bag if weight isn’t an issue. Something for in the dome tent at base camp. Tent does not have any sort of heat source.

Not sure why it didn’t come through. The burden of proof is on yourself. This is common knowledge. They love hunters money and verbally try to “sit on the fence”. However, they directly support organizations with anti hunting initiatives.

Sorry OP. I tried. Back to the discussion at hand....

Surplus Canadian military down filled sleeping bags. For the money It’s a great pice of kit, there is the washable removable liner, inner sleeping bag, outer sleeping bag and Gortex outer shell. The whole thing packs nicely into one bag. Had mine for over 20years. Coldest I ever used it was -25C in a unheated tent and I slept great.

I'm already down a grand from that place. I really like the bags and their tent as well. I still may end up there but will likely need to check some couches in the neighbourhood.

Will do for sure. I don't have high expectations, however it will be a huge score if it works out. Ill definitely post the review when it comes. Apparently it just arrived at my post office!

Let us know what you think when you have it in hand - I need to replace a MEC bag that's been leaking down for far too long - was a chilly November elk hunt...

Default Mec

I would really recommend MEC (mountain equipment coop) Brand mummy bag. Great quality stuff but not the unwarranted $ of many big name brands. I backpack alot and have had mine for 10 years.

I agree with others about MEC. Spent thousands there over the years but won't step foot in there now.

Very interested in that WEX Bag please do post a review!

Ok here’s the review. I’ve never slept in it and will update later this spring.
So far it fits really nice. I’m 6’ and 170 lbs. I have enough foot room (width), the length is good for me. I believe it could handle someone 1-2” taller. 6’2” might be a hair tight for length. I sleep on my side and there is more than enough width without twisting the bag sideways. I’m not a huge guy and feel it can handle a bit more broad person of necessary. I can’t say anything about warmth obviously. The liner is nylon and feels pretty cheap. I haven’t compared it to higher end bag makers. The zipper is decent however you can get it caught up if you’re not watchful. I expected that based on the price. It’s a YKK zipper so should hold up well.
The down insulation feels pretty well distributed. The flaps near the top overlap well too. Again, so hard to tell if any cold spots until I can get outside with it and try her out.
Over all based on its weight and pack-ability (it stuffs easily into its compression sack with minimal effort) for the price I would say so far so good. The real litmus test will come this spring when I test it in my yard for a night. Knowing what I know now, it looks like a good cost and weight savings purchase.
-12 bag, comes in at 2lbs 14.75 ounces in its compression sack. Hope this helps.

I don't like mummy bags. But for backpacking I see the advantage for weight. And I ain't a back packer. So I got the beast. Heavy and warm.

You want under 3 lbs and closer to 2 lbs. I go for down over synthetic as it has a better warmth to weight ratio. If you go down you want a minimum of 650 fill power and rated to 0 C. Don't get hung up on brand. You need a bag that fits your body and sleeping preference. Campers village is awesome as you can actually get in the bags at the store. They have some options for tall and wide as well which is a limiting factor in choices if it applies to you. On second thought if you going sheep hunting don't take a bag. Just suffer so you won't go again 😁
