Ya, me too...couldn't do the Gull Lake derby on the Sat, so I'm stoked this is back again. I've never done the Pine Lake derby, so I'm excited to check it out!

We had a BLAST out there. I'm not sure what the top fish were (they were taking top Pike and top Perch) as we didn't stay for prizes. We caught two pike (lost one at the hole) but they were only about 5 or 6lbs, and I figured 10+ was gonna do the trick on the day, so we didn't bother registering them. It was unreal cold and windy, and we had a bitch of a time setting up the tent. Then the auger wasn't wanting to start, and the heater didn't want to start.....it was just tough all around. Finally did manage to get everything working, and once we did, we had zero interest in moving (I like to move around if I'm not catching after half hour or so)
Prizes for everyone who came out (lots of door prizes) and from what I could tell, it was incredibly well run. The people who run the store now are fantastic and incredibly helpful!!

Nice
Good to hear it is still the same. As for not taking the fish in for weigh in, I made this mistake about 10yrs back and when we went in at the end 2 of my largest perch beat what they had on the board. They were were small like 8" or 9" which would have got me a new underwater camera. Won't make that mistake again...

You fellas are talking to the 1998 (or was it 1999?) Pine Lake summer derby youth champion
I really miss those days. There used to be some great perch fishing from the dock at Sandy Cove. My dad used to catch 3 or 4 pike every morning from what we called "dead man's dock" casting a jitterbug. That place got me addicted to fishing, and I'll never forget spending time there.
It's a shame that Sandy Cove is nothing like it used to be but hey, nothing lasts forever!

I read about an organization called "The Pine Lake Restoration Society" that's active right now in trying to rehabilitate the lake and return it to past glories. I'm really interested in this. Pine Lake seems like it has the potential to be something special, but needs long term solutions in maintaining its health. Is that some kind of pump/air circulator to keep it from getting so swampy and algaeic? I dunno...but I'm really interested in any group that wants to try and turn that lake into a swimmable lake and a decent sport fishery....
