Default Federal MLA

Six months until federal election. Time to start studying your MLA's and opposition. Maybe even run for a seat. Now you now what the qualifications are required?

Try studying up on the canadian political system first.

MLA: Member of the Legislative Assembly.(provincial politics)
MP: Member of Parliment.(Federal politics)

Default "Federal MLA"?

It, apparently, is way past time that we examined the education system as to what is taught about the Canadian Constitution and the division of powers in our federation (??). Whatever it is, it is not working. With all due respect to the OP (most young people I talk to about such things do not have the foggiest understanding of it, and it is not their fault, by and large?), this is, to me, illustrative of why the voting public sometimes makes such bad decisions. I see so much utter lack of understanding as to the most basic differences in what one is voting about - MLA or MP. Some of the contact one has with the public when on the phones or at the door during the different campaigns makes one want to just bang one's head on the desk, as to the ignorance exhibited.
But... let's insert "MP" and assume that the mistake in labelling is mere semantics (it probably is?). Good point - particularly on the option of "running yourself", if you don't like the other choices, or if your choice of party affiliation has current nomination candidates that you cannot support. It is important, and it is time to start thinking about it. Albertastan has several more seats this time around, and hopefully they will not be filled by people who are just "placeholders" and whose facebook profiles include pictures of beer boxes overlaying their heads (?).

Heck, I should throw my name in the hat for the local NDP nomination. Might even get a free trip to Ottawa this fall!
