Default Scope for Henry Golden Boy 44. Or am I nuts?

As the title says, Santa showed up early today. I scope all my other rifles. Even my SKS build. Sure the scope detracts from the looks but I'm not a fan of iron sights. Plus I'd like to shoot out accurately to 200 + yards.

Anybody have a Henry/Scope setup?

They use like a cantilever set up do they not?
Scoping a lever action is blasphemy to some but as we get older we have no choice eh. The only lever of mine that's scoped is my Win 88.
And the Marlins sure look sharp with a set of optics riding on top
Sorry can't help you with your Henry. I'm sure someone on here can help.

If you have an old fashioned lever, I have a hard time seeing them with scopes. The newer style levers like BLRs and the Henry Long Ranger to me are a different story, ok to scope those. But as age goes on and the eyes don't see so good anymore, as wrong as it may look, if you enjoy shooting the firearm you do what you must. I don't think I could scope the Golden Boy, I would buy something else and just admire the beauty. If anything, I would put a tang sight on her.

I tang sight all mine, even my 1885 in 375 H&H. My eyes are getting old but the peep's (if you will) work great and keep the old charm in the leaver. My 2 pennies anyway.

x2. Also suffering the vagaries of old age and eyesight.
But I also have found that a tang or peep is much easier to use than standard 'irons'. I couldn't bare to put a scope on my Henry.

To me ,traditionally placed Scopes and leverguns are like oil and water.
I get the idea of wanting to do it tho.
would an ier scout style scope bolted to the bbl be something to consider?

I'm probably not going to do it. There have been complaints about the factory iron sight as to being accurate but there are after market sights out there as a plan B.
I'm ok with 100yards and sights but any further and I'm guessing !

I have a 6x leup on my Marlin 45-70. some think it's a sin to scope any lever. Looks don't kill, well aimed bullets do. I say scope it.

I put skinner sights on mine and I'm glad I did. I much prefer it to the irons. I looked into putting a scope on, particularly for load development but I couldn't find rings and bases in Canada. Mine came from the factory with the receiver drilled and tapped

I would put tang it receiver sights on s lever action before I looked at a scope as well but that is just me .

Have to do it that way off the barrel. Without looking if there is a way to mount it on the receiver, if there is holes in that brass, it will elongate out. Even heard of it happening on the .22.

Cat is right.

Scoping of tradition lever actor firearm has poor bearing of man of Western persuasion. Function high, but not all of game about. Meanwhile site of tang, or style of Skinner makes of sexual chocolate. Men of similar standing must stand adjacent to door entry, and females have much excitable feelings for man carrying high status Henry. Cheek to stock interface is high and pleasurable, and swiftly bring to submission animal of all sort at long range with text book calibration.

Hope that clears it up.

Those Henry Big Boy rifles have some fine balance as they are. Other than the look of a scope on a lever gun (yetch!), you'll fin that the balance and handling characteristics will be different. Some like the difference, I'm not one of them personally.

I have Levers with both tang mounted and receiver mounted aperture sights. If you are looking for a "go to" handy rifle that will be well balanced, easy to carry and wears accurate sights: I highly recommend setting it up with Skinner receiver sight and a simple blade/partridge style front sight. Depending on the front sight width you always have the option of narrowing the top 1/8" or so of the blade - done right you can find your zero at 2 specific ranges for a given load. Been playing around with that last point on a rifle of mine. The rifle I have a vernier tang sight mounted on is more of a fun/target rifle, that I shoot at different ranges often. The ability to quickly adjust for different ranges is nice for range days.

I believe you will have to have the receiver drilled and tapped to mount either the tang or receiver sights on your Henry. I have shot with barrel mounted apertures, but I am a firm believer in lengthening your sight radius for iron sights.

Have fun with that lever gun!

I took the non scoped Henry H006 out to my local shooting spot and aimed it at a 6 inch wide tree about 70 yards out. Figured I'd crank out a few shots before I put up a few targets. 3 shots and the tree was cut in 1/2. Very accurate with the sights. After 50 rounds I'd say I'm never going to scope this baby! There are a few different sights I might try but that's it!

I have the Big Boy in .44 myself, and it hangs really nice on target. Just the right amount of muzzle heavy. I am not very good with open sights anymore, but with that one I am as good as I can be (with a buck horn).

I will probably put a Skinner sight on eventually.

Those brass Skinner rear sights look nice. Too bad they say there is a 50-50 chance you'll need the front sight as well. No way of telling until you get the rear one set. Too bad I was 10 km from his shop in Sept.

You should have bought a dozen of them. Could have sold them all on here pretty quick for a few bucks profit.

Don't do it. I have one. Great woods rifle as is. Don't plan on shooting 250 yards at deer with a .44

I broke down and scoped my 17 hmr, 3030 steel and 4570 steel Henrys.
Some consider it blasphemy, but it does make me a better shot.
