Default First Day on the Ice at Spring

My son and I headed out to Spring this morning to cure our cabin fever. Hit the ice around 9 and had some action right away, a couple little 8"ers.
After a lul Josh tied into this 16", his biggest trout to date

While we wrestled with his my bell started to dingle. I turned just in time to see my rod flexing wildly, pop out of the rod holder, then slip down the hole. Son of a b****!
Josh looked at me, "guess what you're getting for christmas!"

Good day out. The rod holder was a cheap wire one, the rod was also my oldest cheapest one.
If anyone catches it, let me know! You can keep the fish!

I saw you out there! Glad to hear that you and your son had a good time. After I caught half a dozen little fish I wrapped it up for the day. Today, fishing was the slowest I've seen this year.

I agree.... hundred percent. Won't lose a rod again and you'll catch at least a 100% more fish with it!

No I was alone pulling a sled, wearing full Carhartt camo. You and a number of people were in the "main area" and I went further towards the campground and fished that little straight. I distinctly remember seeing you showing your son what to do, looked like you were having a blast!

Did you have any luck in the straight? I've tried there twice (on the island side of the straight) but have never caught anything.

I've taken my 5 fish home every time since the end of November and I've been out about a dozen times. The last outing was very slow. I caught a 20+ inch trout and a few 16 inchers in the last few weeks. Most of the bites are tiny guys, as long as they're over 12" I'll keep them for the frying pan. The straight has been good to me this year. If you look at the topographic map of the lake you can see a large "hole" around where you were. I've had excellent luck about 50 yards into the lake from a "beaver dam" which is further out into the lake from where you were.
Last time I was out, the bites were non-stop from 8:30 to 11ish. Most of the fish were tiny and ate my shrimp without giving me a chance to set the hook.
I'm trying a different lake tomorrow...

On the East side of the lake, between the Trout Club access and a small parking lot there is a path. It is signed as public access, but not obvious.
Park at the top of the hill in the parking lot and walk in. The path brings you to the boat launch and access to the narrows mentioned in the above posts.
The lake is surrounded by private property. There are paths, so do not trespass.
