Now we have Biologists with new set of rules, only qualified trappers with lots of experience, lots of equipment and a few trapper courses will be approved to purchase a line.

from my understanding, the current rules are:
buyer must:
- must prove you have trapped for at least 3 years in the last 10 years
- must have the basic trappers course from the ata no later then 2003 (regardless if you challenged the previous exam or did the course before 2003)
- must be a junior on the line (if the buyer is not a junior, must be put as a junior immediately on the line before they will consider the buyer)

Qualified, experienced trappers yes, but that's who we want buying lines.
The other stuff is out and hopefully will stay that way.

Tork, I agree with latest changes negotiated by ATA. However still concerned Bio's will not give up fight for their 10 page qualification document in the future.

I'd be interested but wouldn't qualify. As I'm not experienced enough.
Hope there is one like this out there for me in another 5 years. It's a long term goal of mine and hopefully will work out. For now I stay a junior and maybe another course in my future.
I do agree with an experienced trapper deserving it over a weekend warrior who would use it as a moose camp.
Abuse of the old system created some problems.
The OP should garner lots of interest

Just wanted to take a minute and thank Rayzor for the opportunity to purchase his line. We had just a bit trouble getting a response from the bio managing this area, but the plan forward is solid.
Rest assured the new guys moving in have already created a trapline plan and are eager to manage fur on this line. Rayzor has made this experience a favourable transition.

So if I read it correctly I would of had to of taken the ATA course prior to 2003 to be considered to purchase a trapline or should I say qualify to maybe able to purchase one even though I have completed a trapper's course and have been a trapper for probably 30 yrs just not all in Alberta,so I guess i'll never be able to try and get one,True/False? They recognized my course from Nova Scotia to be able to purchase a trapping license in Alberta be it a resident license, but not going to be any good for Registered Trapline, my plan is to take the Alberta course next year as you can always learn from any course taken and it is recognized everywhere.
