Default FFFg Triple Seven in a .54 cal?

I went to WSSS on my BP shopping spree and somehow ended up with FFFg Triple Seven instead of FFg! In doing some reaserch they say it's fine up to 50cal rifles, how do you think it would be in a in .54cal. Due it's fineness I think I will need to reduce loads, any thoughts? Someone want a good price on FFFg?

I assume it is a caplock and not a flintlock, 777 will not ignite reliably in a flintlock unless you pour in about 5 grains of real blackpowder first.

You would probably be ok if you stick with patched roundball and not conicals.
777 is quite a bit hotter than Pyrodex or regular black powder to start with and of course 3f will produce more pressure than 2f. I would not load more than 75 grains of 3f 777 under a round ball in .54.

Thanx for the input, it's a TC Firehawk with no.11's. I am thinking about shooting the Barnes Sabots as it's a 1:38 twist. Keep the loads low and I am thinking it should be fine until I get my hands on FFg.

If the sabots are light, like 350 grains, should be ok. For some reason that 777 realy spikes in pressure with heavy loads. Maybe E-mail Thompson and see what they say. Hodgons says to back off 10% when using 777 compared to other powders and being 3f as well would make me nervous.

It is too bad it isn't a slower twist barrel then you could just try roundball.

The Barnes weigh in at 325gr, I'm planning to just do some target shooting/practice so I will keep the powder charge around 60gr's, and see how she goes I'll buy some Triple 7 FFg as soon as possible and switch over prior to hunting season (will have to resight in though)

If you want to get rid of it cheap I'd take the 3f off your hands for my .45
