Anybody shot the 36gr varmit grenades out of 22-250 with a 1:12 twist ive read their not recomened unless your twist is 1:9. A buddy sold me 200 for 20 bones so i bought before reading up. Might have to be a gopher round
They will shoot fine out of the 22-250 becasue you can push them fast enough. In a 223 1/12 would not be a fast enough twist. You will have no trouble stabilising them.
The VGs like to be loaded as hot as you can go and they like a little jump. They don't shoot great in very many guns but when you find one that likes them they will all go in the same hole at 200 yards.
I used to shoot them out of my t3 varmint with a 1:14 twist and they shot great, I was also pushing them around 4300fps. The barrel data in their load book also shows 1:14 twist
It's interesting that several have noted that bullet RPM is much more important than distance between turns. A friend of mine was stabilizing 90 gr SMX (?) out of a 1:12" twist 22-284. I think he was pushing them over 4500 fps. A 1:9" barrel was causing the bullets to blow up midair...
the twist rate of a barrel is relative to bullet rpm, can you get away with running the same bullet with a slower twist rate? absolutely, you just have to run the bullet at a higher velocity, making up the difference on rotational velocity.
