I have a pond in my back yard and it recently came to light that there is a family of beavers making a mess down there.
I broke the dam last night and I managed to shoot one of the adults - I think.
I went down there again last night and the babies were trying to repair the dam.
my questions are:
will the other adult beaver stick around? how much time do I have to hunt the mate?
If I am successful, who in the Calgary area would like to the carcasses; free and up for grabs.
I found that using a beaver lure upwind of their house helps when I am shooting beaver. They have an excellent sense of smell and when they smell the lure they become curious and will even come onto land to investigate.
make a tape of running water play the tape on the dam on a quiet evening get down wind try to get a elevated shot and a good rest the big guys cant take it they will come out at dusk to plug the leak, fun to watch.
