Default Side Imaging on Small Screen

I am looking at putting two 700 series humminbirds at my helm and one at the bow. All units have 5" screens.

Plan is to use a one of the units, the 798, on a 50/50 split screen to view down and side imaging ..............

Has anyone done this?

If so, is the screen size decent enough to view side imaging details?

I realize I could, for another $400 bucks or so, go to a 7" screen, but it does not offer a quick disconnect which I really would like so I can take my bird out of the boat at night when at the lake.

Thoughts?

Set up will be;

Helm 1 - 798ci HD DI/SI - display 50/50 down and side image
Helm 2 - 788ci HD combo - display 50/50 Chart and HD Sonar

Bow - 788ci HD DI - display down imaging most but will change quite a bit.

All units will share the XT -180 transducer.

I have a 798DI/SI, although a big screen is always nicer, I find the 5" works well. If you noticed there are 3 screen combos you can save, so you can switch between quite a few screens very quickly. You might want to play with color pallets a bit as well, I find some of the imaging screens are much clearer with different colors. Screen resolution is excellent for a 5" screen.

Bigger is better. I would use all 3 on the helm and rig to mount one or 2 at the bow (when you are there).

Thats what I did with 2 LMS 332 and a 337. Now have larger screen 10 and 8 + 5.

When you are at trolling motor you can move one or 2 up.

with 3 you can have one for SI, one for DI and one for mapping or a combo.

798 332/337 and hds 5 are small screens.

Hope that helps!

If the $400 isn't a big deal, the larger screen trumps the quick connect hands down.

Well worth it to my mind.
