I'm originally from MB and typically a 41" would weigh 19-20lbs. I used to guide at a lake and even a post spawn 45" pike would weigh at least 23lbs.
Just curious as to what peoples thoughts are on this.
Keep up the good work rapman.

Goods question - I know everyone is going to jump in and respond, polulation of age groups, forage etc.... which, of course, is the main driver of most lakes.
Wab pike are, indeed, pretty skinny in general - an average 42" pike might be 14lbs on that lake, and there are lot's of them in there that size.
The next day, however, you will catch a 39" that's 18lbs ...........these are harder to find.
This year, I did not spend as much time out there, so there was nothing special to write home about - caught lots at that size but very few much bigger....... despite this - I continue to learn from the mistress.
In 2013 we are going to contend with, or even break the Alberta record and release it back with nothing more than some weights, lengths, girths and photo evidence. Guys will attack the validity of the tape measure, the scale etc...... so the pictures will go to only my closest and trusted forum buddies.
Yes......... Again ........I'm going to scale it in the net or cradle and deduct the weight of the net to ensure safe hadling of the big girls. Yes I'm going to tape it quickly and get within an inch or so of accuracy......... who am I really doing this for.........
That's tha magic of Wabamun. The big girls can swim free and provide another angler an opportunity of a lifetime.
There are just so many fish in there of decent size ...... if you know how rto consistently target and catch them.
Pure magic ....... rewarded with hard work and time put in.
