Default Replacement springs for belisle 120

Bought 2 new Belisle 120 super x's last winter to fill up my marten stock and just got around to prepping them in dec as backups. Did my usual prep, simmer in degreaser for 20 min, air dry indoors and then I paint them. This time, when I came back the next day to paint, I found both springs on one of the two broken in the coil loop (same place on each spring). I have never had a spring break, let alone 2 on one trap. An inquiry to Halfords didn't get me a response (where I bought them). I know they are not expensive but this was a brand new, unused trap, prepped as I prep all my traps. They dried indoors, air temp maybe plus 18 degrees. Has this happened to anyone else? I have also submitted an email to the manufacturer and am waiting to hear from them

Never heard of that.

Is it the actual trap spring?Or the coiled safety?

Not trying questioning you, just have never heard of that

Default springs

The coiled springs, If I could figure out how to post a pic I would. I would have just fabbed a couple new safeties if that's what was broken. I have never heard of it either and I have been doing this for 25 years.

I remember Bruce Bertram saying that with the Ram springs one should never boil in lye and such things, that the springs would break. Belisles have amazing springs, undoubtably very high quality, such as the Ram Spring is, (oh these stupid apple devices and their bloody capitalization of everything, drives me batty) (but I am a gen-x-er).

To degrease steel, give bath in white gas or gasoline and live happily ever after.

If the Spring broke because of your treatment, Spring as in metal spring and not spring time spring... I don't get it, sometimes it does, sometimes it don't... then most likely it is your fault??? I would huck the trap out and get a new one. Changing springs is fun like pulling porcupine quills out of a dawg that bites.

Default Springs

I don't use a caustic when cleaning new traps, just a commercial degreaser. I have contacted Belisle, no response yet.
