Wow...how many people of this forum store firearms so insecurely that they fall off the truck?

That’s because they are not being stored.
They are in transport.

And I guess you’ve never lost, forgot, or otherwise gotten caught up in the moment with anything........I wasn’t aware we were in the presence of such superior beings.

I think a few people are joking or just trying to "win" a free gun by guessing what it was. My guess, is that these "guesses" are mostly tongue in cheek.

Dick: sorry for making the silly assumption that we should all take the responsibility of firearms ownership seriously.

Would it not be appropriate to contact the police as the firearm may have been already reported as lost and they can get it to it rightful owner?

As posted above, that is what is required under the Crimnal Code.

The assumption that it was simply lost, is likely due to the circumstances of where, and at what time it was found. There could be a pile of other reasons unknown to anyone why the firearm was found where it was. That I believe is why the Criminal Code says what must be done in this situation.

Just a thought when I first seen this thread.

A guess only

It could be that the Firearm is stolen and the clowns that had it in their position thought it would be wize to ditch the rifle fast.

Perhaps it might of been used in a crime, the clowns were booking it out of Dodge when they spotted the silver 5 star badge,,, the next thing you know is its time to pitch the iron and make the get away.

Again, this is only a guess since there could be 1000's of reasons the rifle ended up on the road.
Maybe it did fall off a tail-gate of a truck.

Don't know since I wasn't driving the get away vehicle. LOL.

Don
