Default New rifles for Canadian rangers being delivered

The Canadian Rangers will soon get their new rifles to replace their existing Lee Enfields.

The .308 calibre C19 replaces the Lee-Enfield .303 rifle which the Canadian Rangers have used since 1947. The C19 is lighter, shorter and more precise, according to the Canadian Forces.

The new C19 rifles are an improved version of the FTC Tikka T3 developed by SAKO (Finland), and manufactured under license by Colt Canada. They are more robust, and operate more reliably at temperatures well below freezing, an essential feature to ensure the smooth operation of Canadian Rangers in the Arctic, according to the Canadian Forces. “The C19 has security features which will be easy to operate for both right-handed than left-handed shooters,” it added. “The C19 trigger guard is wider, which facilitates the effective use of the rifle with winter gloves.”

Colt will produce 6,820 of the new rifles. “The Canadian Ranger Rifle production deliveries from Colt Canada commenced in March 2018 and will continue until they are completed in late 2019,” Department of National Defence spokeswoman Jessica Lamirande told Defence Watch on Wednesday. “These rifles will start to reach the Rangers later this spring as the field implementation gets underway.”

the Rangers will be opening thier new gifts soon. Can you say Range time

Agreed, that's a long time. I've always been intrigued by the many Enfield models through their years of service and beyond, reliability, simplicity and effectiveness. The"Clubs" sure had a good run that's for sure.

More than a few threads and mentions about the new rifle.

As for the old Enfields, I am not surprised that they have lasted this long, super reliable and perfect for what the Rangers need.

The preliminary cost estimate for the replacement project is $28 million or $4,000 per rifle, he said. That cost includes everything from development and testing to additional equipment, including hard and soft cases for the weapons and a two-year supply — almost two million rounds — of ammunition.

They don't give a value for the rifle alone, nice looking unit

a two-year supply — almost two million rounds — of ammunition.

Thought the regular forces weren't allowed a fraction of that many.

Essentially, just that it won’t say Colt Canada, or have the Ranger Logo on the stock.

Anyone know the differences off the top of their head between this and a T3X Arctic (aside from the colour and logo)?

Is it just me or did the admins clean up this thread?

Some pretty big number being thrown around here. Just curious how accountable the Rangers these are issued to are , if they get "Lost" ?

More likely an IF. Apparently serving Rangers were going to be gifted them (although I have not heard that this will really happen)

I suspect the rest will be destroyed.

It was passed into law that the Govt can no longer sell surplus firearms.

So that about does that.

I think it goes back to the late 80’s or early 90’s, when the C1A1’s and C2A1’s were removed from service.

So what about their stockpile of .303 ammo? There's a shortage on the civilian market.

I doubt that will be sold too.
One illegal act with stuff sold as surplus will have the sharks circling so fast.(at least that was how it was explained why the legislation on the firearms)

Look at who’s at the helm, and I can guarantee they’d sooner just burn the stuff, at a considerable cost, too boot.

Has anyone actually handled and fired an Arctic? I saw one in a shop and handled it briefly but have yet to talk to anyone who has fired it.

I have heard mixed reviews (second hand info ) but actually spoke with a couple of Rangers the other day and they love the new rifle .
They haven’t Scoped them BTW, they both are shooting the irons on them

Any idea what ammo they are issuing? Standard 147gr ball ammo or something better seeing as it is part time used for survival aka hunting?

these look like a cross between a Sako A7 trigger/safety button bolt release, and a tikka smaller loading port, and a two lug bolt head. interesting mix.

Just bought one, haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. They are not a standard T3x. Has 3 position safety like my Sako A7. The trigger is a 2 stage , very nice 2 stage that feels similar to my TRG 22. Its adjustable for pull weight only. The first stage is fixed. I can use my TRG mags in it as well. I really like the iron sights on it. They are adjustable front and rear. Front can adjust blade height , rear windage and 6 settings on the rotating drum.
