Try a pellet gun or air rifle. Worked great for the crows in my backyard, and silent other then the racket the birds made so no one will know the difference.

Don't get too flustered and wound up about the scenario posed. It's pretty unlikely that it would ever happen in most towns. You see your dog being attacked by a coyote, so you go to where your firearms is securely and legally stored, then go to where your ammo is securely and legally stored, load your gun, go outside, and.... find the remnants of your dog? Most people would just take the closest broom or hockey stick and start swinging.

Don't get too riled up there boys. If you had read a little more carefully I stated in my post that I shot the coyote with a camera (small grey print). No SWAT teams or police showed up, just a happy go lucky coyote. See how easy it is to attract attention though....
BTW, here is the evidence when they come to convict me.

a .22 inside the house, with the window open, and the screen pulled out. No one will hear, just make sure you clean it up after. best to do in the dark. shot and clean. use the shovel to throw away the bloody snow.
HAHAHAHA
Sorry, couldn't get that out without laughing
Try setting up a launch pad of some kind, put food on it and wait, when he steps on it to steal the food, FIRE!! It will launch him over the fence and before he knows it he is gone!

Even with a pellet gun or air rifle, you could find yourself in a heap of trouble within city limits. A buddy of mine was plinking in his back yard with an air rifle, and the Calgary Police showed up and gave him a talking to. He was lucky that he wasn't fined.....just a warning and of course bye bye air rifle.

No need to shot anything in your city yard. You will need a few essential tools and be able to spot the coyote live and in person.
You will need a pair of binoculars, a pair of tweezers, and a empty match box.
When you see the coyote, take the binoculars and look through them backwards. Take the tweezers and reach out and grab the coyote, put him inside the matchbox and quickly close the lid. Drive out in the country and disgard....

Way too much can go wrong.
Baseball bat the coyote to death if you want. But refrain from using a firearm.......

Ya guys, no shooting guns in town. The only ones to be shooting in town are the gangs and the crack dealers and the police seem to understand that.

So, It appears the easiest solution is this: Buy a roadrunner. The coyote will spend so much time focusing on killing the roadrunner, you can trap him very easily, but be sure to only use ACME brand equipment. Very easy to do

About 10 years ago my grandfather in edmonton called F&W to complain about coyotes in his yard and said if they wouldn't do something, he'd blast them with his shotgun. They suggested that he use a .22 instead as it is much quieter....no joke!
Try a sling shot with steel ball bearings.

My younger brother was living on the south side of the city, and 2 of his buddies were taking turns shooting a pellet gun at a target the was against the garage in the back yard. A neighbor called EPS and the SWAT team showed up, needless to saw it wasnt pretty. They were all thrown to the ground and cuffed while police ransacked the house looking for "weapons". The police seized the pellet gun and scared the living crap out of all of them. I personally dont think shooting any type of firearm in town is a good idea.

Bang a couple of metal pots together, if the noise doesn't scare the 'yote it's crazy so smash its head in with the bigger pot.
