Default A little help?

This will sound weird, but here goes. Years ago I bought a very large black nymph at the fly shop just off hwy 3 in CNP. It was expensive but was a work of art, it was made exclusively of black plastic electricians tape, it had 6 jointed legs and about 3 inches long.
One day on the Castle I had just finished my lunch and there was a large rock about 10 feet out in the river and it had a large eddy behind it. I tied this thing on, and the presentation bounced off of the top of the rock and sank to the bottom of the river in the still water. Not please with my effort I lifted the rod for another try, off went my nymph and line in the mouth of I estimate a 3 lb. rainbow! Two jumps later with only my leader between me and the fish I lost my nymph.
What I would like to know is; does anyone know what the nymph was imitating? Who tied it, and does any one have one?
Thx.

Twas either a big black stonefly

Or a willow fly stonefly

Could also be dragonfly nymph… but doubtful if it’s the Castle.

Default Stonefly

Thanks, that was what it was. I don't think that the fish thought much about if it was on the right river. It was before the big flood there, and also the spot I was fishing, just down from the rodeo grounds is where a bear killed a fisherman some time later.

I wonder who tied that fly, and how did he/she do it.

Thought the guy got killed on the south castle... or maybe it was another fisherman?

It was the south castle.

West castle and south castle are areas you gotta keep your senses wide open…
