Default Saving coyote hides?

Hi everyone! I hope you're making the best of the recent weather. Could someone please tell me if saving finished coyote hides in a deep freeze until next year would ruin them in any way? Thanks for your help.

Just make sure you roll them up tight (skin side against itself) and secure them in plastics bags pushing out as much air as possible. This will stop them from freezer burning. I've used this system successfully but have only saved hides from one year to the next so beyond that timeframe I'm not too sure. Others probably have different or even better ways to do it but this has worked for me.

Default finished?

guess I am confused by the word finished whcih I consider skinned and fleshed. Not sure why you wouldn't put on stretcher and dry when toughest part is already done or am I missing something?

I missed the word "finished". My response was for rough-skinned only.

Default Ship them

After talking with the people at Halford Hide, it is my understanding that they accept and ship your furs anytime of the year. I assume the auction house that they are shipped to look after proper storage. That might be a better option to consider than trying to freeze your coyote hides. The auction house likely has controlled conditions (temperature and humidity) for the furs. Ray

I've been freezing hides for years. If I'm too late for the spring auction I'll hold my hides till next January.

Dry hides still deteriorate so I freeze fleshed but not dried hides.
As Rob said, eliminate as much air as possible and make sure you roll them skin on skin.

With Beaver, Mink and Muskrat I fill the bag with water, then squeeze out as much water as I can.
With all hides I thaw them, still sealed in the bag, immersed in a bucket of cold water.
Fur can trap frost in the hide and this can lead to spoilage during thawing. Water is a far better thermal conductor so it helps to draw out the frost while keeping the whole hide cool.

As an alternative, Hides can be salted or treated with Borax. However, most tanneries don't like that.

Default Saving coyote hides.

Thanks for the responses guys! By finished, I mean dry and ready for the fur buyer. I just thought maybe prices would be better in the first auctions of next year. I'm kind of new at this and really appreciate everyone help. Thanks.
