Tell ya what, if we ever do this I’ll bring a truck load of bread. Sounds like fun!

Here’s a slugger I saw last fall in my spot and stalk general area. I would love to meet up with him again. Very hard to tell from this photo but he was probably the largest boar I have ever seen.
I quit baiting for the family/time sake so I have taken up spot and stalking. It’s a ton of fun too and much less commitment. But it does lead to lack of “target bears”. I have a little patch of clover heaven cutline way way back that is covered in bear poo and always seems to hold a bear or two. Can’t wait!

All my bears have been spot ans stalk. All big bears. And all taken within 1:4 mile of each other. A honey hole also, so to speak. I cant seem to break 20 though. My last three 19 14/16,19 7/16, last one this padt june was 19 11/16. Grr. All taken with an iron sighted Marlin 30/30.
May take a trip this June-maybe. See if I can’t get a 20.
My goto is the ears. If they are on the side of the head and tiny, I shoot him. Worked thus far.

I buy a bear tag every year but haven't pulled it off yet, really hoping this will be the year!

going to go try for my first ever bear this year! I'm so excited guys. Any tips for a newbie? I have hunted for MANY years but never bear. Im taking a rifle but as protection and a LAST RESORT only. I love the bow hunts and will do everything I can to harvest one with my compound.

I will probably use some beavers that I am trapping right now and maybe a honey pot? Just a little pot of honey under a small flame to get the honey to liquify and drift the scent off into the air. I have heard that works quite well, but I have no idea

Well here he is:

Can see the pink nock in him.

Went 60m:

This didn’t last long. Had to drag the hide out. Too heavy.

How is everyone else fairing on their target bears??

Solid bear Lefty B! Congratulations!
Kinda neat how your game cam took a pic at the millisecond in time where the arrow is disappearing behind the front leg...

It’s almost like it detects motion. :-)

Nice bear!

I’ve got a target bear on each one of my baits. Hopefully I can connect tomorrow night as I haven’t sat in the stand as of yet.

Nice bears everyone!!

That's actually as far as the arrow went in - he is in full on boot it mode in the photo. The second pic of the burst has no bear in it.

Was perfect, cam sent me an update at 6pm while I was still shaking in the treestand and I could confirm the shot was good. Heard him expire 15 mins later 60m away, but still gave him an hour (mostly because it took that long for me to be able to climb down from the treestand - nerves of steel I tell ya...)

I went into this spring hoping this guy would show up as he has the past 6 years...thought this year might be the year I decide he's mature enough. He did show again but something doesn't look right with him this spring. I've watched him enough over the years to know it's the same bear...but he looks much more gaunt...and his fur doesn't look as nice as past years. I can't help but wonder if he was somehow injured last year and had a rougher hibernation this winter.
[IMG][/IMG]

This is a pic of him in 2018....
[IMG][/IMG]

Pic taken from the stand in 2017...
[IMG][/IMG]

Same bear from 2016...
[IMG][/IMG]

Now, I'm not so sure about targeting him this year. I might wait to see what other boars show up...and give this guy a pass for one more year.
But then again, last time I decided to give a different big coloured bear one more year, after watching him over a period of 8 years...he never showed the following spring, I never saw him again!

No bear whispering involved. Homemade lollipops, beavers, popcorn, moldy bread. When I first checked the cams and only saw a sow with cubs I was pretty disheartened, but I only had 4 days to hunt so rebaited and that night he showed up. I was in the stand the next afternoon when he came back for thirds. After watching the sow with cubs and another small bear as soon as I saw this guy sauntering through the brush I knew it was game on.

5 years of baiting the same spot.
