Default 25-06, Nosler Accubond 110, RL25

Hello,

Anyone ever try loading this setup?

I cant seem to find load data (max load) for RL 25 anywhere for this bullet.

Nosler has Retumbo on their site and lots of people seem to like the slow powders for the heavier bullets in this caliber.

Email Alliant directly there usually quite quick to reply. http://www.alliantpowder.com/questions/default.aspx
IF that fails email nosler and ask them if they have data for that bullet powder combo.
IF that fails maybe quickload or one of the guys that has it could look it up for ya?

Here is a QL estimate for 110 Accubond / 25-06

Work up from 56.7 to 60.0 RL 25.

eg.

59.0 gr /108 % load density/61,597 psi/mv 3075/ COAL 3.250/ Barrel length 24 ". I Suggest you use a std LR Primer with this powder.

I tried RL25 with a 110 accubond in my 257wby. Groups were tighter and velocities were higher with H1000.

My 25-06AI really likes H1000 with 115 Berger's. If you have H1000 I would give it a try. Best velocity came from 7828 but it was WAY to temp sensitive. H1000 gets me 3350 fps and tiny little groups. Not quite 257 Weatherby speeds but close.

I have just started reloading for my Ruger No. 1B 25-06 which has a 26" barrel. So far I have tried 120gr Nosler Partitions with IMR 7977, 115 gr Nosler Partitions with IMR 8133 and 110 Nosler Accubonds with Retumbo.

The 120 gr NPT provided book velocities but were pretty inaccurate.

There is no book listing for 115 gr NPT with IMR 8133 so I used the Hodgdon website load for 117 gr HDY with IMR 8133. The groups were much better than the 120 gr NPT with the very best being within 0.75" at max charge; as well, the velocities were incredible with a mean value for four rounds at the max load just over 3300 fps at about 10 degrees C. (no pressure signs)

The 110 NAB provided the most consistent groups over a range of powder charges with the max charge (from the Nosler website) providing the best group at around 1" with almost identical mean velocities to the 115gr NPT (just over 3300fps), but exhibiting some pressure signs.

Given that I only had enough rounds loaded to produce a single group for each powder charge, my next move is to load up addition sets of the 115 NPT IMR 8133 and try that first. If that turns out to be bust, I will try the next best group loading not showing pressure signs for the NABs and repeat a few groups of that loading.

Both seem like pretty good bullets for the 25-06, but at the velocities produced, it seems that at about 400 yards the Accubond gains the advantage over the Partition. This beyond what I shoot so I am favouring the Partiition over the Accubond, but my final judgement will be reserved for after I shoot of the confirmation groups and have the opportunity to test IMR 8133 at properly cold temperatures.
